Suga smirked at Keun-suk as he successfully faked him. His confidence was high, and he felt like he was on the top of the world. He knew he would finally be able to get the message clear to him. That Lonna was his and Keun-suk wasn’t any match. All he had to do was make it past him.
He smiled devilishly as he propelled himself forward, the ball made the twigs beneath it snap as it bounced from his hand to the ground below. His smile grew wider as his shoulder grazed Keun-suk’s as he passed. Just as he thought he had accomplished his goal, his hands were suddenly empty.
Suga could feel his world crash around him. The confidence he had just a moment ago was now gone. He couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that he had let Keun-suk steal the ball so easily. Everyone who watched was just as bewildered. Rage took Suga over again as the two kept their backs to each other. Keun-suk stared at the ball in his hands, he couldn’t help but feel happy, but at the same time, he knew that stealing the ball would only make things worse.
Lonna’s POV
Lonna and Seungwan was down by the river, using the water to prepare the food for the cook out. “Seungwan?” Lonna interrupted the girl as she peeled potatoes. Seungwan cocked her head in question. “You said you have someone you like, right?”
Seungwan smiled sweetly as she looked back on the memory with adoration. “When I met him, my heart did a back flip. I think it was love.”
Lonna smiled kindly at her as she spoke. “Does he know how you feel? Are you two already dating?”
A frown took the place of Seungwan’s smile as she shook her head. “No. I don’t even know where he is.” She confessed. “And, his appearance, I’m not really sure either.”
Lonna couldn’t keep the laugh out of her voice. “What?”
“Because I have a heavy eyeglass prescription.” Lonna stopped what she was doing and moved next to Seungwan.
She crouched down next to her and whispered. “Then you…”
“I’m wearing contact lenses right now.” Seungwan explained. “That day, my glasses broke in the middle of dangerous traffic. He was like a knight in shining armor, rescuing me from danger.” Lonna studied Seungwan’s face as she talked, her eyes crinkled with her happy smile, and her cheeks held a slight pink hue. Lonna knew this look all too well.
“So…he’s actually a stranger?” Lonna asked.
“I believe we’ll meet again.” Seungwan’s confidence was inspiring to Lonna. “And when we meet, I’ll instantly know he is my knight in shining armor.” She cupped her blushed face in the palms of her hands as she smiled again.
She’s like the old me. Lonna thought as she watched her. Creating an idealized person. A fantasy. Influenced by a brief good impression, love only exists in her imagination.Lonna wasn’t sure how she felt about this new information.
“So, the liking Seungwan was referring to…” Jisoo piped up from where she had stood and listened in on the conversation. “Has always been a fantasy?” She gave Lonna a smile as she walked towards them. “This kind of unrealistic feeling, how long can it last?” Lonna tried hard not to let her words mean anything, but it was hard as she was saying out loud, what Lonna was feeling inside. “Could it, at any moment transfer to someone else? Maybe to Suga?”
Seungwan stood up quickly and hid her face behind her small hands. “You heard what we were talking about? Don’t tease me or I’ll get embarrassed.” She shyly scratched her head.
Jisoo ignored her as she set her sights on Lonna, who remained crouched on the ground. “Lonna.” Hearing Jisoo call her name Lonna finally looked at her. “There’s one kind of rival that is hardest to beat, and that is without you realizing it, she’s already between you two.” Seungwan looked confusingly between the two girls as Lonna listened intently to what Jisoo was saying. “And when you look at her innocent expression, you can’t condemn her.” Lonna’s heart pounded rapidly as she found truth in what Jisoo was saying.
Jisoo is telling me, my situation is precarious. Lonna tried to open her mouth to speak against her, but she couldn’t. Part of her felt she was telling her the truth and that thought scared her. Seungwan stopped watching and moved back towards Lonna, she gave her a confused stare. “What does that mean?” She asked. “Unnie, do you also have someone you like?”
Lonna felt the air get caught in her throat at Seungwan’s question. She stood up and walked to Jisoo. “Jisoo, why are you back so soon?” She asked trying to quickly change the subject. She hoped Jisoo would take the hint. “Aren’t they training?”
“Um…they’re doing the retreats most important endurance exercise.” She said following Lonna’s lead. “All the members have to hike up the mountain. I don’t have the stamina to follow, so I came back.” Lonna didn’t say anything as she shook her head in understanding. Part of her wondered how things were going with Keun-suk and Suga.
Suga’s POV
Jin had everyone gathered at the entrance of the mountain trail. “Having all the members climb the mountain, is a club tradition. It represents our teams unrelenting spirit. Old members need to challenge their own records, new members can create their own.” He looked over at Keun-suk, who was fixing his hair into a small ponytail. “It’s a ritual for members, so coach Jang won’t be needed.”
“You mean the coach won’t participate?” Suga asked. Keun-suk glanced over at Suga who held a cocky smirk as he stared back. “Wouldn’t that be letting him off easy?” Suga’s pride was still bruised, but he hoped he could use this next exercise to make up for it. Keun-suk laughed at Suga.
“Not really.” Jin tried to calm the situation down before it got worse. “It’s always been like this.”
“We can make an exception.” Keun-suk said. He was getting tired of Suga’s attitude. “I believe this exercise is very meaningful, too.”
“Of course…it will make this trip worthwhile.” Suga said sarcastically.
Feeling it was best not to try and come between them again, Jin looked to the other members. “Then…okay. Please look after the coach.” Suga and Keun-suk never broke eye contact as he spoke.
“Not necessary. Just look after yourselves.” Keun-suk said still looking intensely at Suga.
“Auntie?” Suga called out to Jin. “What was your time last year?” He smirked at Keun-suk.
“Hm, one hour, 37 minutes, and 28 seconds.” Jin answered. He decided he didn’t want to know why Suga had asked. He looked at the other members and motioned for them to start. “Let’s go.”
Jin lead the pace as Suga and Keun-suk started from the back, side by side.
