All night long Pamela had tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Grandma’s worries had some how become her own and now she was questioning everything. She wondered if the old woman was right, that she was just being naïve to think Lonna was the same as she had raised her. The questions and doubts still tossed around in her head as she packed her and Mr. Min’s bags. Part of her wasn’t so sure if they should go, but she didn’t want to cause Mr. Min to worry unnecessarily.
After eating breakfast and finishing their last-minute preparations, Mr. Min excitedly left the house to put the luggage bags in the back of his car. Once he was done, he quickly got in the driver’s seat to wait for Pamela. “Check the gas and doors.” Pamela told Lonna as she walked with her towards the house gate.
“Got it.” Lonna said.
“We’ll be back day after tomorrow around noon.” Pamela turned to her daughter as they stood next to the car.
“Ok have fun.” Lonna said giving her mother a big smile.
“And…” Pamela stopped talking as once again grandma’s words ran through her head. Those two kids with their raging hormones are still young. I fear if they couldn’t control themselves, then… Pamela looked into her daughter’s eyes and wondered what secrets she had lying behind them. Part of her wanted to ask, but a bigger part said she was being crazy.
“Noona! Water is boiling.” Suga yelled from the house door!
“Oh!” Lonna said jumping up and down erratically. She shoved a package into Pamela’s arms quickly. “Mom, here’s a gift for granny. Have fun. Bye.” She said in a rush.
As Pamela looked down at what her daughter had handed her, she again spotted the ring she saw her wearing on her birthday. She watched as her daughter ran to Suga’s side and smiled brightly at him before letting him lead her into the house. She felt like someone had hit her in the gut.Was the ring from Yoongi? She thought as she stared after them.
“It’s about time, Pamela. We should get going.” Mr. Min yelled from inside the car, snapping Pamela back to reality. “Didn’t you say you wanted to visit somewhere before we leave?”
“Yes.” Pamela smiled for Mr. Min’s benefit, but as she looked back at the house, the doubts about leaving Lonna and Suga alone started to double, but not wanting to disappoint or worry her husband to be, she got in the car. Mr. Min started the van and smiled at her before pulling out of the driveway. Pamela felt like she wanted to turn back and stay home but tried to fight it.
After they had been driving for a while, Mr. Min looked over to Pamela, who was deep in thought. “What is it?” He asked concerned with her being so quiet. Pamela looked over at him slightly before shaking her head to say that nothing was wrong. “You’re awfully quiet. Aren’t you feeling well?”
Pamela was numb to what else he was saying as she stared out the window at the store they were passing. “Honey, can we stop here?” She asked. “I want to get some flowers.”
Despite his confusion, Mr. Min granted her request. As he pulled into the parking lot, Pamela quietly got out of the vehicle and walked slowly inside the shop.
Lonna’s POV
Lonna stood in the kitchen slowly chopping various vegetables as Suga rested on the couch looking at the morning newspaper. “Hey.” Suga called out to her as she slowly cut the onion on the chopping board. Lonna stopped what she was doing and looked back at him. “What are you doing?” He asked.
“I’m fixing dinner.” Lonna said. Every since her mother had left, she had been feeling nervous. Krystal’s talk the day before kept playing in her head. She was making food, just to try and keep her worry in check.
Once she turned back to her task, Suga looked at the clock on the wall above his head to look at the time. He threw the paper back down on the coffee table as he got up and walked over to Lonna. He grabbed ahold of her shoulders and turned her to face him. Lonna was jumpy and shocked as he looked at her and pointed to the clock on the wall. “It’s 1:30PM, and you’re making dinner?” He questioned. “Then why not make a feast to celebrate Chuseok, which is months away?”
“You’re a pest.” Lonna said as she rolled her eyes and turned back to chop more of the onion.
“Come here.” Suga ordered.
“Why?” Lonna asked, her nervous feeling getting worse.
“Come here, I said.” Suga demanded as he walked back to the couch and stood in front of it. Lonna took in a deep breath before walking over to stand by him. He rolled his eyes as he roughly grabbed her arm and forced her to sit on the couch. “Let me take a nap.” He said before laying down on the couch placing his head on her legs. Lonna was too nervous to even argue. Suga smirked at having given her a hard time before closing his eyes.
Pamela’s POV
The bouquet of white lilies waved in the slightly strong wind as Mr. Min grabbed Pamela’s shaky hand and led her back to the van. He opened the door for her to get in, before going over to the driver’s seat. Once he started the car Pamela spoke. “I asked to come all the way here, I hope you don’t mind.” Her voice was small and distant as she stared off into space.
“No, it’s fine.” Mr. Min said putting her hand into his and tracing the back with his thumb. Pamela took a deep breath, to relieve some of the emotions she was feeling. “Pamela, although we’ve never talked about this, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know I’ve never thought of comparing myself to the man you loved, nor replacing anybody.”
Pamela didn’t say a thing as she looked out the window. “I just want you to know, from now on, you can depend on me.” Mr. Min gave her a sympathetic smile as Pamela looked over to him finally.
She leaned towards him and laid her head on his shoulder. “I know.” She said.
“So…your feelings, share them with me. Let me know what’s on your mind.” Pamela wanted so bad to tell him what she had been thinking all day, but she didn’t want to make a big deal out of nothing, but she also didn’t want to lose what she had if there was something going on. She instead smiled up at him and adjusted herself so that he could better place his cheek on top her head. As she laid there in the quiet moment and listened to his heart beat against her ear. She felt full of guilt for not telling him what was wrong.
Lonna’s POV
“Now what?” Lonna asked as Suga still laid on her lap, trying to contain his devilish smile.
Lonna jumped as Suga started rubbing her lower leg with his hand. “Ah…elephant leg pillow.” He teased. Lonna instantly started lightly hitting him in the side.
“You’re mean. Who has elephant legs?” Lonna said.
“It’s comfortable.” Suga said as he snuggled his cheek against her thigh.
Lonna chuckled at his cute face. “You’re like a kid.”
“Tomorrow’s weather is supposed to be great.” Suga said randomly. Lonna turned her head to look out the window at the bright sun that shined into it. Just as she turned to make a comment to him, she noticed his innocent sleeping face and smiled. She used her fingers to sweep the unruly blonde strands that had covered his eyes. She was unwilling to wake him as she sat quietly looking at him.
