Suga skipped up the steps as Lonna, Seungwan and Jisoo walked out of the cabin the team would be sharing. Lonna silently questioned why he was just showing up now, with having been so far ahead. Suga stopped at the top of the steps to avoid running into Jisoo, who gave him one of her sweet smiles. “The team is already training in the woods.” She informed him. “I’m about to join them.”
For some reason, he looked behind Jisoo, in the direction of Lonna. Lonna quickly adverted her eyes towards the ground and nervously bit her bottom lip, Seungwan gave him a huge smile as his eyes moved to her. Suga took a deep breath to try and calm himself. “Let me drop off my things, and we will go together.” Jisoo shook her head in agreement as Suga moved past her to go to the cabin.
“Yoongi, let me take your things.” Seungwan had walked in front of him, making Suga tense in anger. Her sweet voice and kind smile only fueled the frustration he was trying to hide.
He ignored her offer and held the bag out to Lonna. “Lonna, take this for me.” Lonna couldn’t believe he would do such a thing, she took the bag and gave Seungwan an apologetic look.
“Oh, okay.” As Lonna turned to take the bag to the cabin, Suga went to leave, but to his dismay, Seungwan called out for him to stop. Curious to what was going on, Lonna stopped what she was doing and turned to see.
Even though he didn’t want to, Suga turned to look at her. “Last time…thank you for telling me the truth.”
Suga was confused. “You’re…not angry?” Suga asked. He was angry at himself for what he had said and how he said it, and he felt it would only be right if she was.
Seungwan just smiled as she shook her head no. “It was my fault for making an unreasonable request. Afterwards, I thought it through.”
“Thought what through?” Suga asked.
“If you clearly don’t like someone, but have to pretend to like them, it’s impossible.” She said. “Just the same as if you love someone, but have to pretend you don’t, that’s also impossible. So, rejecting me was the right thing to do. Thank you, for not letting me have my way.”
Suga closed his eyes and tried to control himself by taking in a large breath of air. “Then why are you here?” He asked. Jisoo’s eyes went big as he continued to speak. “Do you truly want to be an assistant manager?” Seungwan’s smile faded, she could feel the lecture coming and she tried hard not to let the tears gather in her eyes. “Are you capable? If not, then isn’t this just another attempt at getting your way?”
After saying what he felt needed to be said, Suga walked away with Jisoo following closely behind him. Lonna looked over at Seungwan and felt her heart crush at her dejected image. She once again felt bad and moved to talk to her. “Yoongi is being the bad guy again.” She looked at the frown on the girl’s face and couldn’t stop the feeling of wanting to comfort her. She placed a hand on her shoulder and squeezed. “Seungwan, don’t worry. Let’s cook for everyone and Yoongi won’t have anything to say. Let’s go.” Seungwan smiled as she silently shook her head in agreement. Lonna walked her to the kitchen to get the things they would need.
Suga’s POV
The rest of the team were stretching, as Keun-suk leaned against a nearby tree observing when Suga and Jisoo finally joined them. Jin stopped doing his arm exercises when he saw them. “Gather round.” He ordered.
Once everyone got to the middle, Keun-suk walked between them and looked around at all of them. “Everyone, before we got here, the captain and I had a discussion about the basis of this training. We need to focus on each player’s strengths, endurance, and flexibility for target training.” Suga just stared at him intensely as he finished his speech.
After his speech, Jin separated the team into two groups and told them about their first training exercise. First up was RM and Taehyung. “Ok, now we will assign teams for one on one offense and defense.” Keun-suk explained the training further as he blew the whistle and RM sprinted forward trying to get past Taehyung as fast as he could. “Offense’s goal is to pass the opponent. Defense’s is to get the ball.” He watched as Taehyung blocked RM’s way easily, forcing him to go around the trees, trying to shake him. Jin and Suga kept their eyes on the two boys as they watched them closely. “Because we’re surrounded by trees and rough terrain, the level of difficulty will be higher.”
Jisoo happily took pictures from her spot. Suga’s eyes glided over to stare at the back of Keun-suk’s head. The rage was evident to anyone who would dare to look, but he tried his best to control it. He was pulled from his staring as Jin smacked his back and told him they were next. Suga moved into Taehyung’s spot to take the defense as Jin crouched low and smirked at him, waiting for his chance to try and show him up. With one glance towards Keun-suk, who was about to blow the start whistle, Suga’s control snapped. He wanted to show the older boy that he was better than him.
“Coach.” Suga yelled out to him, making him stop just before blowing the whistle. Everyone looked around shocked. “Since you created this exercise, if I challenge you, would you have the ability to take the ball from me?”
Keun-suk kept his cool as he gave Suga a cocky smile. “The question is not my ability, but my intention.”
Suga wouldn’t allow him to get out of this. “Do you have it?” he provoked him further.
“Do you care?” Keun-suk shot back. The whole team gulped at the tension between the two as they watched the interaction.
“You see that?” RM asked Taehyung, making Jimin and Jhope lean towards them to listen. “They are answering every question with another question.”
“It’s weird.” Taehyung noted. The other three shook their head to agree with him.
For a while, all the two boys did was stare at each other. Suga stood tense and ridged with fury as Keun-suk was calmer, but you could see the anger slightly in his brown eyes. He tossed the ball at Suga, who quickly caught it with no trouble.
The forest was deadly quiet as the two stood in front of each other and got ready to start the show. Suga felt a rush of adrenaline as he started dribbling the ball. This was the moment he had been waiting for, the moment to prove he was the better man. To show Keun-suk that he had what it took to be the one Lonna was with. This wasn’t just an exercise to him, this was him having something to prove and he was confident in his skills.
