I stared at the clock until it strikes 12:00am. “Thanks the Gods, I can finally speak!” I yelled in Chloe’s ear.
“Ow, keep your stinky breath to yourself,” she growls.
“I don’t care what you saw, how much longer is the trip?”
“That strawberry farm is right around the corner,” she pulled up to where we needed to be.
“Sweetie,” Chloe cooed. “Did you know that your dad and I had a background?”
“What?” Dan asked, looking up at her.
“Yeah, I would watch him every day. He loved me so much that he made me a sunflower,” she sighed.
“The last person that he turned into a sunflower was his greatest admirer. Yet, he never liked her back. Her love for him caused her to become a sunflower. That is why sunflowers always face the sun, because she always watched him cross the sky,” Dan’s eyes widened. “That is who you are?”
“Yes.” She then looked at Dan in disgust. “I never loved you. I never even liked you! Get out of my car!” she yelled. “You are an ugly stupid demigod!”
I was fired up right there. “AND YOU ARE JUST A STUPID MORTAL THAT CAME BACK TO LIFE! YOU NEED TO STOP TALKING BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT MUCH OF EYE CANDY EITHER!” I yelled at her. She stared at me, shocked. “Come on Dan, she is nothing but a kisser, not a lover,” I grumbled as I got out of the car. On my way out, I took my dagger out and stabbed her tire.
She never loved Dan, and she never will love anyone else. Dan was still in the car, so I walked around the car to get to him. I swung open the door and dragged him out. “Don’t worry, I got our vengeance already,” I whispered in his ear.
“No, don’t. She didn’t mean it at all. She isn’t leaving,” Dan stuttered.
“Uh, yes she is. She was planning this the whole time. Your dad broke her heart so she got back at him by attempting to break yours. She wasn’t there for you, but I promise that I will always be here for you,” I whispered into his ear.
He looked up at me, snapping into reality when the car drove off. “I am so sorry Lorry, I didn’t know what I was doing!”
“It is okay, I forgive you.”
“No, I am really sorry. You were there for me the whole time, but I treated you like a piece of gum on the bottom of my shoe!”
“Dating abuse at its best!” I joked to lighten the mood. “Whatever she wanted, you wanted. Whatever she thought, you thought. You were only a copy of her and that is okay because now you aren’t!” I sighed. “I would never do that to you.”
“Why are you being so nice after what I did?”
“Because,” I paused. “I love you.” I held his hands, looking into his eyes.
“I love you too,” he said and kissed me.
When we were done, I said, “I am sorry, I knew that she was going to do that.”
“Dream?” he asked.
“Yeah,” I watched the car drive off and then start to slow down until it leaned over to the tire that I flattened. “You are welcome,” I laughed as she got out of the car and started going on a tantrum. Barely anyone ever comes here and so she is going to be stuck there until morning at the earliest.
We started walk toward camp when a woman appeared in front of us. She had long, straight black hair and striking green eyes, just like me. “Hello my child.”
“Mom? Could you tell me who you are now?” I asked; I still had no idea who she was.
“Of course darling. I am Gaea,” she smiled wickedly. “Are you sure that you want to go to camp?”
“Not anymore,” I stuttered. Then I remembered that Dan was with me. “Actually, I am sure of it.”
Gaea’s smile disappeared. “You were born to join me. You were born to destroy and take, not to love and defend! Call me when you come to your sense,” she disappeared. I stared were she was, wanting answers more than ever.
“Get away from me!” Dan grunted as he scrambled away from me. I wanted to summon a root to tie him down so I could convince him that I was not trying to harm anyone, but that would only make him want to get away faster.
“Please understand,” I yelled after him. He continued to try to get away as I walked toward him. “At least try to understand,” I pleaded. Fear was full in his eyes, and I didn’t want to see any more of it so I stopped moving, staring at him. He kept scurrying away from me, than ran away.
I stared at him as he ran off to camp, than collapsed on the ground, sobbing. I was there for him the whole time, yet he left me right when danger struck. I cried, letting it go all of the way, not holding it back anymore. I ran to were the forest was deep and dark. I had discovered who my mom was, so I knew what I could do. I focused on a thick tree to become thicker and have room inside like a house. I carried my bag by the handle and walked toward the tree. I made it so it had a door and walked through, enjoying my new house. It wasn’t much, just a hollow tree, but it was my home.
