You do know what is going to happen, right? a soothing voice asked, her voice echoing through the empty cabin.
“Whatever you are thinking, keep it to yourself because I don’t want to hear it,” I snapped at her. I knew it was my mom; she was never going to give up on me.
There is no girl in the crash. He is sending you on a wild goose chase, she warned. He won’t ever let you stay in this camp, but you shouldn’t even care about that when you could be the leader of a whole army against the gods that doubted you.
The offer was tempting, I’m not going to say that I was 100% on the side of the gods. I’m not going to say that I hated my mom completely. I’m not going to say that I knew that I wanted to stay on the side with my friends without a single doubt in my mind because I wasn’t. I paused, thinking if that was even a possibility. “I am going to see for myself,” I stated when I snapped back to reality. “And if there is no girl there for me to take to camp, then I will join some other side.”
It is about time you admit that you are coming to my side, my mother amusingly said.
“Your side isn’t what I am talking about, I’m talking about the huntresses,” I rolled my eyes.
I heard shuffling and a door slam behind me, I knew exactly what just happened.
You don’t have him to hold you back anymore, Gaea laughed.
I stared at the door, wondering if I could ever explain to Alex why I just said that. Crap, he thinks that I’m going to run off to the huntresses. I’ll just explain everything when I come back, I promised myself. “That was your fault. Besides, now he knows the truth. I will do anything to avoid your side.”
Do you realize what is going to happen when you don’t find that girl? Gaea questioned. You won’t be there for your brother. Then he will expose who he really is and face the exact same fate that you are about to face.
“Does it really matter? I am going to find that girl even if I have to tear apart all of Virginia to find her!” I exclaimed.
Not only will he be on a wild goose chase and soon realize that he was just kicked out of camp, but he would not have anywhere to go. It isn’t like he can become a huntress, Gaea continued with her theory.
“Well then, he would be able to figure something out. It wouldn’t be my problem so I don’t see the point in caring,” I shrugged.
I don’t have to be your mother to know that you care if he dies, she laughed.
“Dies? He is the one that has actually been training. I don’t think that he would die,” I pointed out.
Chloe is in his classes, do you really think he is paying attention? Gaea wondered.
“Just shut it,” I commanded while I stuffed a bunch of clothes in my bag. I checked myself in the mirror, my pitch black hair was in a slick ponytail behind me. My lime green t-shirt was bright and attracted attention. I shrugged, I was too lazy to change my shirt. I went through one of my drawers and took out a black belt and laced it through the loops of my dark jeans. On a quest, a belt could make the difference between having a weapon and not having a weapon. I patted my black boots. Sure enough, my dagger was in there.
I need to name this dagger, I thought to myself. “Fecit finem,” I blurted. I furrowed my eyebrows, I wasn’t even thinking about what I was going to name it yet it came out of my mouth in Latin. “Destiny Maker,” I muttered. “I like that name.
With my bag swung around my shoulder, I then looked at myself in the mirror again. “I can’t believe that I forgot,” I rolled my eyes. I took my bag off and put my book inside. That would be a nightmare if I hadn’t brought my poetry book. With a bag stuffed with clothes, my poetry book, and one awesome gel pen, I was then ready to face whatever I was going to fight to save that girl.
