Sage and I sat in silence for a while, but I couldn’t help but feel rejection feel thicker around my heart.
“Sage, I am sorry,” I apologized.
He was taken by surprise. “For what?”
I took a deep breath, “I just didn’t know what to do when I saw that someone else was going to take her to camp instead of me.” I pointed to my winged shoes, “I had to fly over one thousand miles to get here and the flight was long and boring. I didn’t come here to be told that it was all taken care of.”
Sage nodded, not knowing how to respond to my apology.
“Where you even supposed to save her?” I asked.
“No, I just wanted to help her once my friend was finally okay with it,” he answered.
My eyes widened, “So, you left because of Ace?”
“Yeah.”
“Sorry for thinking about killing you,” I apologized.
Sage leaned away from me, clearly concerned about whether I meant it or not.
“Sorry for freaking you out too. I am sorta new to camp so I have no idea what people mean by Gaea and all. What can you tell me about her?” I casually asked.
“Well, she is hated by just about everyone. She is the leader of a whole army full of giants and monsters like that. Each god had am opposing giant that is made to kill and hate that one certain god. It takes a demigod and a god to kill a giant,” Sage informed me.
“What has Gaea done that was so bad?” I asked, hoping to figure out why she was hated so much.
“Well, she has been trying to kill one boy and one girl demigod so she can be fully awakened. She had trapped this boy’s mom in her own work place and then made the boy so angry that he burned the whole place down. Then he believed that he killed his mom,” he explained. “That is just one of the many horrible things that Gaea has done, should I continue?”
“No,” I stopped him, wiping a tear away before he could see it. “I get it, she is evil.”
I sighed, hating myself for not being able to contain my feels. I stared out the window, imagining myself run outside the car, away from all of the bad that has ever happened.
Sage knew the short cuts that Chloe knew so we were able to get there in a few hours. Right before we turned the corner to go into camp Half-Blood, a Cyclops ran in front of us and flipped over the car. Sage and I ran out to fight it, hoping that Apricot was still asleep so she didn’t have to see this.
The Cyclops roared, waking Apricot up. When the monster started walking towards us, I expected it to pick me up because I was clearly the stronger one here. Instead, he picked Sage up off the ground, letting him scramble in his hands. I laughed at the Cyclops, “Ha! Funny! He takes the weakest one!” I yelled.
