I ended up in the same place that I always end up in, the underground cave without an exit. I would be wondering how anyone was able to breathe down there because there is no excess to oxygen but then I realized that it was owned by the one who is basically the queen of oxygen.
It was lightly lit in the cave, leaving many dark corners in the cave. I counted backwards from three expecting to hear the evil laughter of James, but it never came. James was supposed to murder me every night, why was he not doing it now?
I decided that this time, I would not let him kill me but be the one to stab myself in the heart. He didn’t deserve the pleasure of my fear whenever he is about to kill me. This time, I was going to approach death without fear.
“Hey James! How is life?” I loudly talked. “Ready to end mine now?”
“Great, stuck with a freak and a stranger. I was just trying to sleep for crying out loud! This sociopath thing is tiring!” someone exclaimed from behind me.
I quickly turned around to face Tate. She was either glaring at me or her eyes naturally are fierce. As always, I avoided eye contact. This cave is controlled by Gaea so I can’t use any of my powers to grow anything. If Tate knew that and was mad at me, I knew there was no way of stopping her.
“Tate? Why are you here?” I asked with astonishment overflowing in my voice.
“Lemme guess, the freak show brought me here. As your good friend over there,” she responded as she sat down on the ground.
I wasn’t sure who she was referring to because I didn’t sense anyone in the shadows. Yes, the cave might take away my powers but I could still connect with the ground and be able to know if anyone else was standing nearby.
“What? Is James here?” I worriedly asked.
“He was. I got here before you and he told me somethings. Guess he left, I’ll take a nap here then,” Tate mentioned as she started to lay down.
“Aren’t you sleeping?” I guessed. If I was sleeping and was in my sleeping form, it would only make sense if only other people in their sleeping forms could see me.
“A dream. Exactly what I ordered,” Tate scoffed as she pushed herself off of the ground to stand up. She cupped her mouth to magnify her voice and shouted,” Hey Freaky! I’m done playing hide-and-seek with you, child. Get out of the shadows!”
Normally, Gaea would be there taunting me the whole time. She must be sitting back and watching the show unfold. I scrunched up my nose and decided it was time for her to have a taste of her own medicine.
“Yeah mom! Show me your physical form! Oh wait, you don’t have one! You are still sleeping!” I mimicked how her tone was soft even though she was saying the rudest things. I smirked, it was like making funny faces in front of a sleeping person, they will never know what was happening.
“Look here fatty! I’m not here to be a child! I have a life to live, things to do! So, get your sour puss face out here and speak up!” Tate tried to get James to come out.
“Oh wait mom, you can’t speak out loud, you can only talk through minds,” I whined.
“Stupid chubby and his hiding techniques. How long do you think it’ll take me to kill him if it were even?” Tate wondered.
I looked at her, for the first time I attempted to look her in the eyes. “James? I could beat him anywhere but here. You could kill him with your glare,” I admitted, dropping my eyes and felt sensed that someone had arrived.
She smirked, satisfied with my answer. “That’s what I thought. So, how long till Creepy Dude comes back?” she questioned.
I decided to act normal so whoever was in the shadows could think they were spying. “I don’t think he will,” I admitted. It hit me at that moment what had to be done.
James has been killing me for the past few days and I was losing fear of him. What if Gaea decided to find the one who would scare me enough to make me wet my pants in hope that I would break quicker? For Tate to be picked to be my new assassin, that would mean that she would have to be on Gaea’s side.
