We walked back to the tree that my book was. I had my flying shoes just fly me up to the branch that had my book in. Once I reached the branch, I simply cut the vines that held the book with my dagger.
“What are you doing child? Wouldn’t you rather have me take the vines off for you?” Gaea’s voice echoed through my head.
‘What do you want?’ I mouthed. ‘What do you mean?’
“You really think that you have powers? That is just me doing you favors!” Gaea laughed at me. “You need to realize that I am the only reason that you can do anything.”
‘I can do things without powers,’ I growled, no sound at all came out of my mouth.
“Really? Like what?” Gaea taunted.
‘Climb trees,’ I mouthed, crossing my arms.
“You couldn’t even talk if you didn’t have the help of a god. You couldn’t even climb trees without your genetic connection to them,” Gaea continued to taunt.
‘I really don’t care about what you think,’ I spat on the tree.
“It isn’t my opinion, it is a fact. If I lose this war, then you lose all of your so called ‘powers’. Wouldn’t you want to join the side that protects your powers?” Gaea asked.
I put my poetry and plant book in my bag and then climbed down the tree, not knowing how I would respond to that.
“What is wrong? You look like you just saw a ghost,” Alex told me.
I hadn’t realized that I hadn’t been breathing for the last few seconds; or possibly minutes. I smiled to let him know that I was okay.
“It doesn’t take that long for someone to put a book in a bag, what happened up there?” he asked, pulling me into a hug. I was surprised at first, and accepted it because it felt so right. I stayed in the protection of his arms for a few moments, feeling as if this moment would last forever. I really wished that it could.
We of course, were interrupted by something. Chloe came from somewhere and I finally noticed her when she cleared her throat. I let go and glared at her.
“Nice to see you too, looks like you have another boy that I can take!” she cheered. “This time, you think that you made it a challenge. It won’t be that hard to take him from you.”
I glared at her, making her the tiniest bit scared of me.
“Oh please, are you not even smart enough to come up with anything to say?” Chloe taunted.
I simple waved at her, telling her to leave. “I haven’t even done what I came for,” Chloe protested.
“Seriously, could you just leave?” Alex asked.
“What is the fun in that? You are with the wrong girl and the right girl is right in front of you,” Chloe flirted, walking over to Alex and pushing me out of the way.
Alex backed away from Chloe, scared of her like she was a scorpion.
“No need to be afraid of me,” Chloe cooed. I face palmed myself, I wished that I had my voice.
Alex looked about as uncomfortable as he could; taking a step backwards every time that Chloe took a step forward. I wanted to have a root trip her, but I was done with my mom. If she was doing the favors that made it so I had so called “powers” then I want nothing to do with it.
I stepped in front of Chloe and she just bumped into me. “What is your problem?” With a simple glare, I then turned around and held Alex’s hand and dragged him away. I wasn’t scared that she would take him away, I just hated seeing Alex so uncomfortable when I could stop it from happening.
