“You do understand that I would never like her, right?” Alex asked.  I nodded and smiled at him.  He probably likes walking by me while holding my hand more than following me from behind, I laughed inside my head.

We kept walking in a random direction outside of camp.  When it started getting dark, I dropped his hand and took out my poetry book.

“That cover looks familiar,” Alex commented.  He thought for a moment as I took out a pen.  “Oh yeah, it was on Conner’s face two days ago,” Alex remembered.  “Did you slap him with the book?”

I smirked, glad that people think that I had slapped Conner with my book.  I then shook my head and pressed my hand to the book.  My hand had the imprint of the music note and I showed Alex.  He nodded, “Nice one.”

I took a mockery bow.  My book was open to the next blank page.

Day Nine

I promise that I will not

Admit to my mother.

I am done with

Getting her favor.

Without the powers

Will I get much farther?

As long as I have friends

And we are together.

“There isn’t much that we can do, so why don’t you sleep and I’ll keep first watch,” Alex offered.  I couldn’t take first watch because I wouldn’t be able to speak or yell at all.  It made sense so I took the offer by nodding.

I lifted my hand and was about to make a flower bed, but then remembered what Gaea told me.  I was not going to take any more of her favors in my life.  Instead, I just slept on the dirt.  This is going to be a lot harder than I thought it would.
