Beeping brought my attention to my surroundings.  I was back at my old house, repairs were being made to the floor boards that I ruined with roots.  “You could have avoided this,” James said creepily from behind me.  I didn’t bother to look back at him to see him creepily smiling to make me uneasy.

“Sure I could’ve, but then I wouldn’t be here today,” I sarcastically told him.

He walked to my side, shaking his head like I told him a funny joke that was wrong.  “That’s not what I am talking about,” he smirked, watching me attempt to keep a straight face.  “Have a look for yourself.”

My feet took me to my backyard where my dad was petting a tree like he always would do.  “My dear, I miss you so much,” he whispered to the tree.

His craziness didn’t faze me; I was used to him acting crazy like this.  James was holding back a burst of laughter so I slapped his shoulder and scolded him.  “If you dare disrespect him, I’ll put you in his stage with a brick,” I threatened.

“You won’t have to worry about him anymore,” he hinted.

I turned my attention back to my dad to see roots wrapping around his feet.  My dad didn’t notice, still admiring the tree.  Vines came down from the tree and I saw what was going to happen.

“Do you want to stop this from happening, my dear?” James sympathized.

I quickly nodded, practically screaming at myself for not stopping it with my powers.

“The just join our side and he will live,” James promised.  “Unless you want him to just hang around,” he hinted.

The vine crawled around my dad’s neck; he just simply petted it as if it was a friendly snake.  I had enough of it and focused on having the vine go away.  “Darling, you know that I am the one that controls all plants.  I simply do you little favors,” Gaea cooed in my ear.  “Don’t even bother asking me to stop this.  I would only do that for people on my side.”

I pushed her voice out of my head; still demanding that the vine doesn’t do it.  “You can’t do anything without your mom so don’t even try!” James exclaimed.  The vine stopped moving and then started to unwind itself, going back to where it came from.  “Stop it!  You can’t do anything!”

The vine retracted to the tree the roots went back into the ground.  I lifted my eyebrows at James.  “You lied to me?” I growled.

“Like you haven’t lied to me,” James rolled his eyes.

“I haven’t lied to you,” I sneered, taking my dagger out of my boot.  “Tell me the truth now and I won’t kill you.”

“Fine, you can do have powers.  Gaea only said that stuff so you wouldn’t use your powers so you would see how hard it was to not have them.  Once you realized how much you need your powers, then you would have wanted to join her side,” he explained.  “Although that doesn’t matter anymore because now if you want a good night’s sleep because you have to join our side.”

“What does that even mean?” I asked.

“You really haven’t figured it out yet?” he looked at me as if I had trouble seeing a simple pattern.  “If you are going to wake up, you have to be killed.”

“What?”

“Okay, I will try to explain this in the easiest way possible.  Heart beat stops, dream stops and then you wake up,” James explained.

“What if your heart stops?” I asked, skillfully handling my dagger by the handle.

James laughed at me, “Then I will make sure whoever is responsible for it will have a very slow and painful death.”

“Now someone is vengeful,” I teased.  “Anyway, I feel like waking up right about now so have fun stabbing things,” with those as my last words, I used my dagger to stab myself in the heart.  The pain was instant, impossible to hold a scream back.  While the pain was instant, so was the ending.
