"How are we going to get her in there?" a familiar voice asked.
"I'll take care of it," a man huffed. I was lifted and then set down on a leather chair. I pretended to be asleep. I heard a car door shut to my left. And I am in a stranger's car. This just keeps getting better and better...I thought to myself.
I opened my eyes and pretended that I just woke up. I was about to ask were I was, but sound came out and I remembered that I couldn't speak. In the driver's seat was a sixteen-year-old boy with perfect blonde hair, perfect tan, and just about perfect everything. Dan sat to my right, staring at me worriedly.
"A mute, huh?" the guy in the front asked.
Well a naw! I thought to myself. I nodded slightly to answer his question. "Well, sense you won't introduce yourself, I'm Apollo. God of the Sun and a lot of other things."
I rolled my eyes. And I am Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love. I sarcastically remarked inside of my head.
"No really, the Greek gods are real," Apollo edged.
"Prove it," I snapped. "What? How can I talk?"
"Told you that I was a god. That includes music," Apollo pointed out.
"But, this is my voice that I had years ago. It doesn't sound any different! How did you remove the curse?" I questioned.
"Psh, honey. I created the curse," he laughed.
"Thank you for finally removing it," I growled.
"Oh, I am not removing it permanently. It will come back in about a hour," Apollo predicted.
"Ok, why am I here?" I asked, not seeing why I was so special that of all people, I was allowed to sit in Apollo's car.
"Because you are a demigod, and so am I," Dan cut in. "A demigod is half god or goddess, and half human," he explained.
"Who is your godly parent?" I asked, mind still foggy from the fall.
"Apollo," he answered.
I stared forward, wondering how I did not see that coming. Oh wait, Apollo is sixteen and he is thirteen! "Wonderful, who is my mom?"
Dan shrugged. "Could be just about anyone."
"Nice," I looked out the window. "Where are we going?"
"Away from Octavian..." Apollo sighed.
"But you are a god. Why not just kill him so he doesn't hurt anybody else?" I questioned.
"Because he is my Roman son," he croaked.
"What?" I started.
"It is complicated, just go along with it," Dan whispered in my ear.
I smiled slightly and nodded. "Oh, yeah. That..." I sighed as I remembered that Octavian had tried to kill me. "Why would Octavian try to kill me? Did I ever do anything to him?" I asked.
"Well, Octavian had once had a huge crush on a girl. When she died, he said that he would kill one person each month so he could keep her alive. So, I am guessing that he is trying to pay up today," Apollo stated as if it was normal.
"Oh, that’s nice. Is it possible for me to make a deal to be able to keep my voice without killing?" I asked.
Apollo thought for a moment. Dan bit his lip and stared at Apollo as if trying to get a message to him. Apollo took his eyes off of the road to hand me a book. It was about the size of a composition journal, but about five times as thick. The outside was golden and there was a quarter note on the front. "Write one poem in here each day, then the next day, you will be able to speak. If you miss one day, you may not speak the next day because the curse will return."
I nodded, staring at the cover. This would be the most valuable thing that I have ever owned in all of my life. "Thank you so much," I whispered.
