Chapter Two

Lucas walked inside. The sight that awaited him made his heart sink. Amelia was dead. She had a wooden stake shoved in her chest. Her once pale skin was now gray and withered.

Her green eyes that were once full of life were gray and lifeless. He ran over and placed her head on his lap.

He shoved the stake out and sobs had wracked his body. "Amelia I'm so sorry I wasn't here to save you. I'm so sorry."

Lucas abruptly woke up from his reoccurring nightmare. He ran his hands through his hair and checked the time on the clock beside his bed.

It was 5:00 am. He rolled out of bed and walked downstairs. He walked lightly down the steps to not wake everyone up.

He grabbed a blood bag from the refrigerator. He drained it and threw it in the trash.

He walked back upstairs and laid in the bed again. He stared up at the ceiling. That's how he was for the next hour.

His brother James knocked on his door. "Get up Lucas. Vanessa wants you to come down for breakfast."

"Okay I'm coming." He said. He heard his brother's footsteps walk away. "Good morning." Lucas greeted even though his morning really wasn't that great.

"Good morning." His siblings greeted back. They were actually all cousins but they acted more like siblings.

James was the oldest. He was turned at 22 years old. Then it was Vanessa she was turned at 19 years old. Then it was Cole he was also turned at 19 years old. Cole and Vanessa were twins.

When Vanessa was turned she didn't want to be alone so she turned her brother. Cole was angry at first but then he started to like being a vampire and all that it entails.

Then it was Lucas who was the youngest at 18 years old. "You had a nightmare didn't you?" Cole asked.

"Yeah." Lucas replied sullenly. He had the same one every single time. It still haunted him often.

Cole gave him a small smile. He was letting him know that they were here for him without really saying it. That was more than enough for Lucas who gave a small smile in return.

"Your breakfast is ready." Vanessa informed. Lucas stood up and walked over. He got two pancakes and three strips of bacon.

"Things will get better baby brother." Vanessa said. She squeezed his hand in comfort. She gave him a smile and sat down.

Lucas sat down beside her and ate his pancakes. "Are you guys excited to go to school?" James asked.

"Yeah even though we attended it too many times to count. It's still exciting." Vanessa gushed. She loved being a teenager and going to school.

Vanessa and her brother did not have a great childhood either. All of them had bonded since they all had horrible childhoods.

"It's whatever." Cole responded. Lucas nodded his head in response.

He wasn't really that enthusiastic but it's not like he had something better to do.

"Oh come on guys. Cheer up. Maybe this year can be different." Vanessa exclaimed. She was always the optimistic one of the family.

"I highly doubt that but keep up the positivity dear sister." Cole said sarcastically.

"What about you Lucas?" James redirected the question. "It sounds alright I guess. We haven't been here in a while." Lucas mentioned.

Every decade they had to move to a different place. They couldn't stay at one place for long because people will notice that they don't get any older.

But something about Blackwood always brought them back.

"I'll take that as a yes." Vanessa stated getting up from the table. Lucas finished his plate as well and walked upstairs.

He changed into a white shirt with blue jeans, brown combat boots and a black leather jacket.

He threw his backpack over his shoulder and headed downstairs.

Vanessa and Cole were already dressed. They were packing their blood bags in their backpack. "Pass me one Nessa." Lucas said.

Vanessa threw it at lightning speed and Lucas caught it easily and put in his backpack.

"Where's James?" Lucas asked as the trio walked out of the house. "He went to the hospital since we're low on blood bags." Cole answered.

"We should race each other to the school. Last one is the rotten egg!" Cole sped through the woods.

"Hey you cheated!" Vanessa yelled and followed after him. Lucas chuckled and followed after them.
