Chapter twenty

Maya's days was a continuous cycle. Wake up, eat breakfast, go to school, go home, then sleep, then repeat.

Riley was worried for her best friend. She didn't like seeing her sad all the time. She decided to visit Maya. She knocked on the door.

"Go away." She heard Maya's voice. "No Maya it's me open the door." Riley said. The door unlocked and Riley opened it.

Her best friend was in sweats and a large t-shirt. Her blonde hair was piled in a messy bun. She had dry tear marks on her cheeks and her nose was red.

"Peaches." Riley embraced her in a hug. Maya cried into her chest. "I miss him so much Riles. I don't know what to d0." Maya muttered in her chest.

"Hey there's a party tomorrow. We should go. I also heard Alex was gonna be there." Riley mentioned.

At first Maya kept on ignoring Alex but then she confided in him. Riley thinks that there is more than what it is but it really isn't.

Maya rolled her eyes. "Riley he's just a friend. Please stop trying to make more of it."

"Okay I'll stop talking about it. But please go to the party with me tomorrow. It'll be fun and you can forget about your problems."

"Okay I'll go where and when is the party?" Maya questioned. Riley told her the details of the party.

Riley hung out with Maya for a bit before she had to go and finish an English essay.

The next day passed by in a blur. Maya was getting ready in her bedroom. Maya picked out a black dress with lace details and black heels.

She curled her hair at the ends. She applied mascara and dark red lipstick. She looked at the mirror. It was like she was staring at someone else in the mirror.

She grabbed her phone, house keys and purse and left the house. She made it to the mansion in fifteen minutes.

Music was blasting out of the house. Red solo cups were littered all over the lawn. Some people were throwing up in the neighbor's front yard. A typical high school party.

She opened the door. Music had vibrated in the floor. Multi colored lights flashed around the room. Some people were on the verge of fucking right on the dance floor. Others were smoking weed or making out on every flat surface.

Maya felt extremely uncomfortable. The last time she been to a high school party was last year and that was the only time she went to a high school party the rest of the year.

"Peaches you made it!" Riley slurred. She stumbled slightly in her heels and Maya caught her before she face planted on the wooden floor.

"How many drinks did you have Riles?" Maya inquired. "This many." Riley held up three fingers.

Farkle came up to the girls. "I'm gonna take her home now. I think she's had about enough." Maya nodded and gave Riley to him.

"Bye Peaches," She slurred as Farkle escorted her out of the house. "Hey Maya you look great." Alex complimented.

"Thanks you look good too." Maya shouted. "You wanna go to the patio?" Alex yelled.

"Yes please." Alex grabbed Maya's arm and they escaped out of the sea of dancing bodies.

Maya and Alex both lean against the wall. The wind blew Maya's hair in her face and she placed it behind her ear. Wow she's beautiful, Alex thought watching the way her blue eyes sparkled in the moonlight.

"Maya can I try something?" Alex asked. "Sure what is it?"

Alex pulled her in by the waist. He was about to close the space when he felt himself get pushed back.

"Alex what are you doing?" Maya asked. "I was about to kiss you." Alex answered.

"Why would you do that?" Maya questioned. "Because I like you Maya." Alex declared.

"I'm sorry Alex but I don't feel the same way." Maya stated.

"Why can't you move on from him? He left you!" Alex exclaimed.

Maya sighed. "I know that I should move on but I can't. He's the love of my life."

Alex laughed dryly. "You are so naïve. Don't you get it Maya? He's never gonna come back for you. When are you going to get that through your head." Alex roared in her face.

Maya had tears streaming down her face. She clutched her stomach as if to protect herself.

"Look maya I'm s-," but he was cut off by Maya. "Leave me alone Alex! Don't ever talk to me again." Maya pushed past him and went inside the house.

She slammed the car door shut. She laid her head on the steering wheel and sobbed.

Why did you leave me? Maya thought. She wiped her tears away and drove home.

She takes a warm shower. She gets out and puts on her pajamas. She curls up on the bed.
