Chapter Twelve

"Hey Riles can you cover for me and say that I'm spending the night over your house?" Maya asked, watching her boyfriend pick up her overnight bag from her bed.

"Yeah sure peaches. You spending the night over you know who's house?" Riley said in a suggestive tone. Completely unaware that said who completely heard what she just said.

He smirked at her. He grabbed her stuff and jumped out of the balcony.

"Yes Riles I am." Maya said, her cheeks blossoming a dark red.

They talked a little bit more before wishing each other a goodnight. "Jump out!" Lucas ordered.

"No I'm scared." Maya said. "I'll catch you I promise." He gave her a reassuring smile. He held his arms out.

Maya closed her eyes. "One two three." Maya whispered and jumped out. She fell securely in her boyfriend's arms.

"I told you. Nothing to worried about love." He whispered. Maya smiled when he pressed his lips against her forehead. He carried her to the car. He drove away from her house.

"I was thinking you should meet my parents." Maya remarked. "Um when is this occasion?" Lucas asked shifting uncomfortably.

"Next Saturday. I told them in the car today that I had a boyfriend. My mom was excited while my dad was the complete opposite." Maya told him.

"Is your dad overprotective of you?" Lucas inquired. "Unfortunately yes but he'll warm up to you. Well I hope he does." She grimaced.

"That's not very enlightening." Lucas remarked. "Hey, If they don't like you they have to deal with me." Maya said, repeating the words he said a few nights ago.

Lucas kissed her knuckles making Maya smile. He pulled up to the house. He grabbed her bag from the trunk and clasped her small hand with the other and they walked inside.

James was fixing his shirt in the mirror. "Where's James going?" Maya asked. "He's going to the council meeting at the Hunter's house." Vanessa answered.

"Oh really? My dad is the leader of the council meeting." Maya said. All three of them look towards her in shock. "Your Dad is Shawn Hunter?" Cole asked.

"Yeah. I never know what his meetings were about. Why?" Maya questioned. Lucas turned to his siblings and had a silent conversation with them.

"Oh nothing I was just not aware he was your father." Cole said. "Alright I'll see you guys later." James picked up his car keys and left.

"Hey Maya I need to talk to Vanessa and Cole really quick." Lucas informed her. "Okay go ahead." Maya sat down on the couch.

Lucas, Vanessa, and Cole went inside Lucas's room. "I don't think we should tell her." Lucas declared. "Why not? She has the right to know." Cole said.

"I think what Lucas means is it will make Maya look at her dad differently and she wouldn't be able to handle it." Vanessa rehashed.

"I want her to have a good relationship with her dad. I know it'll hurt her if she knows." Lucas said.

All three of them came to an agreement not to tell her. "Everything okay?" Maya asked. "Everything is okay babe." He kissed her lips and threw her arm around her shoulder.

He really hates lying to her but it's for the best.
