First of all, thank you guys so much for almost 300 views! It means so much to me 😘😇 hope you enjoy this one.

"Jack?" I whisper, looking at the invite. "What?"

The card stock shakes in my trembling hands. I read it back over.

Dear honourable recipient,

We are pleased to announce our wedding, the seventeenth of June at the church downtown. We would be pleased to see you there for our special day. More information is below.

Love from,

Jack Duff and Maisie Grant

My mouth falls open and my eyes tear up as I finish reading the times and specifics. Jack...I can't believe he'd do this to me.

I pick up my phone and dial his number, then decide not to call him and turn it off. My body is paralyzed with indecision, then I have the urge to go to his house and talk to him.

The walk takes no more than ten minutes, I'm half jogging. When I get there, tears threatening to fall out of my eyes, I dab at them carefully to not smudge my mascara. I knock on the door.

A moment later, Jack opens it.

"Hi!" He exclaims, smiling as soon as he sees me and pulling me into a hug that I try to refuse. "Did you hear the news! Maise and I are-

"Yes, I heard Jack! Do you not think I did?" My tone of voice makes him pull away and lower his eyebrows.

"What's wrong, babe?" My heart jumps at the name but I know it's just something he calls everyone and I sigh.

"Jack. We dated for three years. And you're getting married now." The sharp edge in my voice leaves and it's replaced with a sorrow that isn't usually there.

"Babe, what...I'm not following here. Do you want to come-

"JACK! I've loved you for years. I've never gotten over you! You were the best thing that ever happened to me and I know that you had to break up with me so that the band would function better but seriously! I've loved you forever, Jack, and I know you're making a mistake. Look, if I wasn't right for you, would I have held onto that tiny bit of hope? Would I still love you? Tell me; tell me. Would I really?"

His mouth has fallen a little bit open, his eyebrows raised in surprise.

"Babe...I didn't know you...I'm sorry."

"And yes, I'd like to come in, thank you," I storm past him with tears in my eyes and I collapse on the sofa. He sits beside me and puts an arm around my shoulders. I lean into him.

"I'm so sorry, Jack. I didn't mean this. I'm really sorry..." I whisper, choking on my tears. "I just love you so much." He rubs my back gently.

"How about I make you a hot chocolate, that makes everything better." I nod and choke on my breaths, and he claps his hand on my shoulder gently and stands to make the drink. He comes back a few minutes later with a mug of steaming brown liquid.

"Babe, I still love you too," he whispers quietly. I look to him hopefully, but he's looking into his lap.

"No you don't," I say, looking back down. He takes my face in his hand.

"Yes, I do. I'm sorry. Maisie already said yes. I'm so sorry. I never thought you did, after I left you for the band I thought that you wouldn't like me at all. Then we stayed friends and...Had I known..." he trails off. I cuddle into him.

"Jack, do you want to marry Maisie?" I ask quietly, looking into his eyes, so he'll respond truthfully.

"Yes, but I love you too," he says. I feel sympathy for him because I'm watching him fall apart in front of me, his heart torn in two, but I'm the one trying to take his heart back.

"Why don't we settle this some way else. Odds on?" I ask. He hesitates, but then nods.

"Okay. I think Maise knew that I missed you anyways. So we'll do that. Between one and five on stopping the wedding?" I nod.

"Three, two, one"

"Two," we both say. Neither of us say anything for a moment, but then Jack sighs.

"I guess I'd better tell her then? I'll text her now." He takes our his phone and goes to message her but I stop him.

"Jack..." I say quietly. "Are you sure this is what you want to do?" He nods hesitantly.

"Yes. She'll be okay. And I love you, babe." He gently kisses my temple. "I'm so sorry, Maise."

"Jack, don't text her. That's the worst thing. Call her, and explain." He nods after a moment.

"Okay." He dials her up and puts her on speakerphone.

"Hey, love," Maisie says on the other end.

"Hey, Maise. I have some news for you and I know you won't like it and I'm sorry in advance-"

"Jack, calm down. You know that I couldn't ever hate you. Don't worry." He purses his lips.

"Okay. So here's the thing. Uh...you remember the girl I was talking about?"

"Yeah..."

Jack stops for a minute, trying to figure out how to say it. Just as he opens his mouth to tell her, I clap my hand over his mouth and shake my head. He lowers his eyebrows.

"I'm sorry babe, I'll call you back." He hangs up.

"What the hell?"

"I'm sorry Jack. I want you to be happy. I can't have you ruin your marriage because of a stupid game of odds on. Get married to her. You wouldn't have proposed if you didn't love her enough." He nods and dials her again, this time putting his phone to his ear.

"Hey, babe? I'm sorry. I didn't mean to alarm you. I was just going to say that she came over, so I invited her to dinner." He looks to me with raised eyebrows questioningly. I shake my head.

"But she said that she had to go, so I just wanted to let you know. Bye princess." I smile at the nickname and he hangs up.

"I'm so sorry. I've screwed up everything," I say quietly. He shakes his head.

"No, everything's okay. I'm okay, you're okay, we're all good, right?" I nod shakily and he takes me in his arms.

"Thank you Jack." He smiles. "I think I'm going to go home now." He nods.

"Okay. Come on." He helps me up and then walks me out.

"I'm sorry for everything. Thank you for making me feel better though." I turn around to go, but a hand on my shoulder stops me.

"Hey, I have a question for you." I nod, asking him to go on. "Will you still come to our wedding?" I smile widely.

"Of course. Anything for you." He grins.

"Thank you."
