*tw: mention of suicide, suicidal thoughts, bullying, self harm*
The next day came much too fast for Logan's liking.
It was lunch and Logan sat where he usually did. The one empty table in the entire room.
Virgil stood behind him and tapped on his shoulder.
"Gah!" Logan yelled. "Oh, it's you."
"Hey," Virgil said. "Wanna come to my table now?"
"Uh..."
"Come on, it'll be fun!"
Logan knew he'd agreed to it, but he was more worried than he had ever been about sitting alone.
Virgil practically dragged him to his table in the corner, farthest from Remy.
"What is Luke doing here?" Remy asked.
"His name's Logan. And he's here because I don't want him to sit alone," Virgil answered.
"No shit," Roman laughed, "He's Logan! Nobody knows him. No offense, Logan."
"Play nice."
Logan's self esteem was decreasing by the second and he wanted to put his hands over his ears.
"Looking good, Virge!" called a student from another table.
"Thanks!" Virgil called back with a bright smile.
Logan loved seeing him smile. His face turned bright pink at how perfect Virgil looked and Remy took note of this.
"Logan's blushing. Aww, does the geek have a little crush on Virgil who's totally not completely out of his league?" the Starbucks fanatic taunted.
Virgil turned his head back to them. "What?"
"No," Logan said, pursing his lips.
"A love story between the popular kid and the loser," Roman teased. "It's basically Mean Girls!"
A girl from the table next to theirs chimed in with, "No way. Nobody could love somebody like that loner."
Remy giggled and Roman smirked.
Virgil looked at Logan with a strong sympathy.
"If I'm bothering you, I understand," Logan said quietly and much more timidly than he intended to. "I-I'm going to leave now. Thank you for inviting me, Virgil, but I don't think this table is for me." He got up and went to the cafeteria exit.
Virgil wanted to run after him but everybody was watching. When everyone returned to their meals, Virgil got up.
"Gonna reapply my lipstick in front of a mirror really quick," he said.
Remy nodded. Roman didn't hear him because he was zoned out while humming Music of the Night.
Virgil grabbed his lipstick just to make it seem less suspicious and headed off to where he saw Logan enter.
He opened the bathroom door.
"Lo?" he called.
No response.
"Lo? You in here? I'm sorry if you're upset. I thought that if you sat with me, people would like you more. I was wrong and I get if you're mad at me. I'm sorry Remy's such a dickhead. I'm sorry. Please come out? I'm sorry. I shouldn't have convinced you to accept my offer... At least tell me you're in here. It's gonna be really weird if I find out I'm talking to nothing."
"Here," came Logan's voice, cracked and almost inaudible.
"Are you mad at me?"
"I'm not mad at anyone."
