☆ 37 - house and home ☆

Logan stared at the ceiling at night. He already took off his glasses because he thought he was going to sleep, but he was wide awake despite his attempts.

He heard rustling from Virgil's bed. Virgil was getting up.

Why? It was 1 in the morning.

Virgil seemed to notice Logan being up and he turned the light on. "You good, bro?"

Logan ignored his question. "Why are you awake?"

"I was going to get some chips because I couldn't sleep."

"Why couldn't you sleep?"

"You know that I don't sleep, Lo. Anyway, why are you still up, Mr. You-Need-Optimal-Rest?"

Logan turned on his side and saw the bags under Virgil's eyes that weren't present at school because of his makeup.

"Go to sleep, Virgil."

"Nuh uh. Not until I get my chips and you tell me what's going on." He went to the kitchen and came back 30 seconds later with a large bag of Doritos.

"Okay, now tell me."

Logan put his glasses back on. "Do you think I should go back home?"

"...what do you mean?"

"Like, my house. With my parents. I wouldn't want your parents taking care of me until we graduate high school or something like that."

"But... You hate it there, don't you?"

"I do. But I think it's best."

Virgil anxiously ate his chips. "If you really want to try, I won't stop you. But if anything happens, and you have to come back, just tell me. I want you to be safe, okay?"

Logan, scratching his left arm nervously, said, "Yeah."

"I'll walk you there tomorrow after school."

"That'd be nice."

Virgil held out the bag. "Want some?"
