I gave a sideway glance to the tall Nong treading through the rough gravelly path easily, while I stumbled like a fool. His black wife beater didn’t conceal the toned arms and shoulders. He looked like a real pro in clamouflage cargo pants and heavy boots. Compared to him, I felt really lacking in my cotton shorts and thin t-shirt.

“Done sulking?” He laughed softly, holding a branch back to let me pass.

“I wasn’t sulking.” I grumbled. As a matter of fact I really was. P’Pete was too much. And why did that made me angry, I really can’t explain. It’s not like Nong Ming belongs to me, exclusively. I really shouldn’t feel possessive over him.

Besides what would happen if he really did find someone else? Would he stop caring for me? Why am I so dependent on him? I’m a grown man for Pete’s sake.

He jumped up to get hold of a nitch in the large rock and hoisted up easily.

“Come.” He extended his hand for me. I got hold of it and let him drag me up on to the rock. I looked around, breathing heavily.

“It’s really peaceful here.” Ming dropped his backpack on the rock and sat down. “Come sit down.” He patted the space next to him. I slowly lowered to sit besides him.

I’m so exhausted. I’m not used to physical activities much. I occasionally go to the gym or go for morning jogs. Other than that I’m pretty much stationary in my day to day life.

“You look tired

“You look tired.” Ming observed. I nodded wiping my sweating face with the shoulder of my t-shirt. “We’ll rest here and chill for the rest of the day and head back before night fall.” He said opening his backpack.

“I thought you wanted to hike. We didn’t cover much.” I said looking around.

“I don’t care.” He handed me a bottle of water. “I’m here for you.” He admitted casually. How am I supposed to act nonchalant when he says cheesy stuff like that? I feel flustered every time he blurts out such things.

“Will you stop saying such things.” I mumbled, taking a sip of water. He just chuckled, taking something wrapped in clear plastic.

“Here.” He offered a sandwich. I opened my lips in surprise.
