Emily’s POV

“Are you ready?” Louis asked before we got in the hospital bedroom where my mother was.

“No…”

“I’m here with you.”

“I know.” I smiled. “Let’s go.”

Me and Louis got in the room and found my mother, connected to several machines with her turned to the television, even though I was almost sure she wasn’t paying attention to whatever was on that moment.

As we got in she looked at both of us and her eyes widened, her face full of surprise for seeing us there.

“Emily.”

“Mum…”

“I… I was not expecting to-“ She coughed. “To see you here.”

“I didn’t… didn’t knew I was coming anyway.”

“I’ll wait outside.” Louis whispered and I nodded, smiling at him.

“So, you’re still with him.”

“I will always be with him-“

“I know.” She cut me and smiled which I found really weird. “Emily, I am so sorry. I know that I did a lot of things that were wrong because I thought that I was right, but I didn’t knew how sick I was back then and you know how I am, I cannot admit that I’m wrong.”

“Mum I didn’t came to talk about that.”

“I know, but I want to talk and I want to say sorry.” She coughed staining the tissue the wore to cover her mouth with blood which made me shiver. “I… I have to admit that I never really liked that Louis guy, I never imagined you would get a boy covered in tattoos and piercings and that made me go look for stuff about him, I wanted to find something that would make you stay away from him.” She coughed. “But no matter how many proofs I got, how many scheme I came up with you would always stick to him, you couldn’t see he was bad, so… I had to take more drastic measures.”

“Don’t talk like if you didn’t had any other option. I know Louis did horrible things in his past, but they’re part of his past, of his story and we have to learn how to forgive and that’s what I did because… I love him.” I shrugged.

“I know.”

“I think I was always a bit jealous of you two because… you loved each other so much and… you know I never had that with your father.”

“Mum it’s not your fault.”

“I know you can’t forgive me, but believe that what I say it’s-“ She was cut by the cough that was getting more intense and irregular, just like the blood that was coming out of her mouth. “I’m so-sorry. C-call Louis.”

“Mum, that’s not a good idea.”

“Please…”

“Okay… okay, I’ll call him.”

I walked to the door opening it next slowly. Louis was leaning against the wall facing the door like if he was watching, like if he was waiting for something to happen. His gaze met mine and he smiled at me.

“She wants you to go there.”

“Why?”

“I… I don’t know Lou.”

“Okay…” He sighed and pushed himself away from the wall, taking my hand on his. “Let’s get face the beast.” He said in a lower tone, like if he was talking to himself.

“Louis.” My mother said as we got in and smiled. “I’m glad you came.”

Louis nodded and showed a little smile, almost fake.

“I want to apologize you. I should have never judged you by the way you look and for your past which I had nothing to do with and should have given you the choice to tell or not your story to Emily. I… I did thing I shouldn’t have to separate the two of you because I thought you didn’t deserve Emily, that she was too good to you and that she deserved someone better than you and what I did weeks ago is unforgivable, but I found out you really love her and that you’d do anything for her just like she would and did anything for you and I know I made a…” She coughed, cleaning her mouth right away. “…a huge mistake and I am sorry for that, even though I know you will n-never forgive me.”

“No, I can’t forgive you, not just like that…”

“I know and I understand, but I wanted to apologize anyways, I wanted-“ She coughed once again, more blood following. Her breathing became fast just like her heart beats which we could see through the machines.

“I’m going to call someone.”

“Ring the bell.”

I looked for the bell he told me and clicked it multiple time really quickly. Not that it would made them walk faster, but maybe if they thought it was an emergency they would at least… try to

“Emily…” She called.

“Yes?”

“I… I just want you… just want you to… to know that… I…”

“Mum! What’s happening?”

“I regret… e-everything I make you… g-go through…”

“What’s happening?” A nurse asked followed by two doctors.

“She’s coughing too much, her breathing is fast and she’s really agitated.” Louis explained.

“I will have to ask you to leave the room.”

“No!” I said.

“Emily…”

“Mum…”

“Emily, please calm down.”

My mother stretched her arm and I did the same so I could hold her hand, but I could only touch her fingertips for a few seconds, because the nurse was pushing us out of the room. So the doctors could stay alone.

“Emily…” Louis called pulling me to a hug.

“What’s going to happen to her, Louis?”

“I…” He sighed. “I don’t know Emily.”
