Even as the world around them slowly fell down as the entire Wizarding World was now in the Dark Lord's grasp, they still had to pretend like nothing was wrong. The Ministry was now in their grasp as they controlled the current Minister of Magic, Pius Thicknesse and there was nothing that the Order of the Phoenix members could do without raising suspicion. All the Order of the Phoenix members now had to fall under the radar as everyone knew that they were being watched in some way. However, with Death Eaters now controlling the Ministry it also meant that the Daily Prophet was also in their hands. This had led to a number of awful articles being published.
The Death Eaters were still in hot pursuit of Harry, Ron, and Hermione but thankfully they had currently found nothing pertaining to the group.
Thea's joke about being out of a job, however, came true as the news was delivered by the Daily Prophet on September 1st. Informing everyone that the Aurors had been decommissioned and their wands confiscated. Thea and Elliot, as well as Kingsley and Tonks, had both been rather fortunate as none of them had been in the Auror office at the time, having already made an executive decision not to go back and to keep fighting with the Order. However, Thea was aware that Miles, the other boy who had been in her training program as well as several others of her friends in the department hadn't been so lucky. She had also received news that some people from the Auror department had blindly followed the Dark Lord's regime once he had taken over the Ministry, Thea was extremely mad about it all.
However, it only got worse from there. Also in the Daily Prophet that arrived on September 1st was news that it was mandatory that all students attend Hogwarts under the newly appointed Headmaster Severus Snape. Death Eaters were know running Hogwarts but it didn't even stop there. Muggle-born were now being weeded out as the Muggle-born registration was soon put into effect.
"The Ministry of Magic is undertaking a survey of so-called "Muggle-borns" to better understand how they came to possess magical secrets.
Recent research undertaken by the Department of Mysteries reveals that magic can only be passed from person to person when Wizards reproduce. Where no proven Wizarding ancestry exists, therefore, the so-called Muggle-born is likely to have obtained magical power by theft or force.
The Ministry is determined to root out such usurpers of magical power, and to this end has issued an invitation to every so-called Muggle-born to present themselves for interview by the newly appointed Muggle-born Registration Commission."
Thea wasn't a muggle-born fortunately however, she knew that a lot of people wouldn't be as lucky.
Thea had received the news through Max when she had seen her last that her family, as well as Alexander's family, that they were going into hiding. They were both muggle-born families and as no one really knew what would happen if a muggle-born went before the commission. However, Thea was pretty sure that it wouldn't be anything good.
During the period of war, Thea couldn't help herself but worry. The war was wreaking havoc on her mind as she couldn't seem to shake the feeling of dread in her stomach. Even though nowadays people often referred to her as a 'badass' because of the strong witch that didn't take any shit that she had become, somewhere deep inside Thea could still feel the timid, nerdy teenager who was only really confident and sassy around her family and friends. But with Ginny now being forced back to Hogwarts, Harry, Hermione and Ron being hunted like animals and the rest of her second family in danger, Thea felt like she had every right to worry.
Elliot had eventually moved into Thea's apartment in the room that used to be Tonks'. The two of them had agreed that it would be the safest thing for them at the moment even though both of them were more than capable of defending themselves.
However, the two best friends found a whole new set of problems that came with living with each other. It included Elliot being a little fond of his bathroom time as well as Thea's often unhealthy Chinese takeaway addiction while Elliot preferred to cook for the both of them. It had led to plenty of disagreements but eventually, they had managed to learn how to work around each other.
The two of them rarely saw anyone else anymore nor had they heard much from anyone. All forms of communication were being watched so any important information was being relayed in person.
But without much news from anyone and the fact that they were being watched very closely and really unable to leave the house without being spotted. Their own connection to the outside world was being fed to them through the Daily Prophet but they were a bunch of biased idiots that were being forced to do whatever the Death Eaters wanted them to write.
But Elliot and Thea were forced to spend their time using whatever the house came to offer. This meant that matches of exploding snap and wizard chess were often in quick succession, however, it was all becoming rather boring. There was nothing exciting to do anymore and Thea wanted nothing else to make Voldemort and his little entourage of death eaters pay for every single life that was lost in their hands.
