I'm all grown up...

I grabbed my phone thinking the worst and called Lin,
"Where the heck are you?!"
"Just going to - sort something out."
"Lin"
"Trust me Jonathan, it's all gonna be okay."
"Just tell me where you've gone at least?"
"Not if you get a taxi after me, I'm just reflecting on stuff there's no need to worry."
"It sounds like there's every need to worry Lin just tell me where you are."
"You won't remember the place."
Where would Lin go to reflect and what places have I forgotten? I sat down on the couch trying to figure it out as Lin kept talking through the phone.
"Is it about Stacy?"
Lin fell silent, answering the question itself.
"You don't know the place Jon, look after the kids and I'll be home soon okay?"
I sighed muttering an agreement then ended the call. It was infuriating to be unable to remember, I would have probably figured it out had I not forgotten it all. I made myself a cup of tea then went up to the guest room, there was a small chance I'd sleep but at least I'm somewhere. I lay in bed on my phone for a couple hours until I got a phone call from Lin
"Lin?"
"Hey can you let me in the house?"
He replied hastily, his voice was cracked and altogether it didn't sound like good news. I opened the front door and let him in, shutting and locking the door after him. He gave me a sad smile then immediately went into the study locking the door behind him, great. I knocked on the door but got no response
"Lin, talk to me. You can't just ditch me with the kids then not explain anything about it."
"It's two in the morning, go to bed."
"You woke me up"
"And I won't keep you up. Go."
Grudgingly I went back upstairs to sleep and woke the next morning with full knowledge Lin had probably pulled an all nighter. I carried the kids downstairs and set them on the floor with Chuggington about to start on the TV. Nodding to myself I walked to the study and knocked on the door.
"Lin"
"Lin open the door"
"Jon go back to sleep now, I'm alright"
"Lin it's morning now, you spent the whole night in there."
"Oh."
He unlocked the door and walked out looking like a wreck, his hair was disheveled and he had big bags under his eyes. I took it all in then whispered
"Where the hell were you last night?"
He yawned
"That's for later, are the kids up?"
"Yes, and they're watching Chuggington so we have a decent 15 minutes for you to tell me what happened."
"Jon"
"What?"
"Don't do this to me."
"I don't understand."
"I clearly don't want to tell you so drop it."
"I clearly am concerned so just tell me? It's not that hard"
"You said you remembered everything that happened with Andrew."
I shuddered
"So?"
"You clearly haven't got past that, so wait."
He remarked rather bluntly and began to make the kids breakfast.
"No need to be harsh"
"Sometimes it's the only way I can get through to you."
I rolled my eyes, of course he'd be snappy after a lack of sleep. It'd be mean to argue with him
"Well since you are so patronising I'm going to watch Chuggington with the kids then"
He scoffed and continue making breakfast so I left, thankfully he soon followed holding three dishes
"I need to wait for the kids to finish theirs before I can eat mine."
He pointedly looked at me when he said 'kids'. So this is what it'll be like today, great. My breakfast was thankfully not baby food but I was given the same proportions of breakfast (basically nothing) to eat.
"Lin are you joking?"
"Stop whining."
He snapped and started to spoon feed the other kids, fed up I took the dish and went to the kitchen adding more cereal and milk so it was normal size.
"Nice of you to join us again Jon."
"No problem dickhead."
I knew the kids were there and I knew he hated it when I swore in front of them but I was mad now, mornings are bad enough without being treated like shit. The kids finished their meals and Lin immediately left to the kitchen ushering me to follow.
"Jon, again, quit it with the swear words."
"Couldn't help it, you are being a dickhead."
"Shush!"
I laughed at him, like the kids even cared
"Yes I had an all nighter, yes I'll tell you what happened, just if you act like a kid you'll be treated like one. Simple really. Now go pretend we didn't just argue."
I laughed then realised that was a serious order, wow he is hyper sensitive to what his kids see and don't see. Turning around I walked back out and started to play with the kids, I'm not going to bother telling them we didn't fight since I know for a fact they don't care one bit. Chuggington Chuggington Chuggington, that's all that's going on in their heads right now. Lin walked in after and uncomfortably sat beside me to play with the kids. When both the twins started to ignore their toys and watch Chuggington instead, I whispered
"Promise you will tell me though?"
"Jon"
"Soon? Just at least tell me, after losing my memory I should at least get told where you were one night."
Lin heavily sighed
"Well when you phrase it like that -"
"- So you will tell me?"
"At some point yes. Don't assume that point will be anytime soon though okay?"
He warned and I just sat back smiling to myself. Lin's trust meant a lot since he's helped me through it all. If he can trust me with this, no matter when, it's relaxing to say the least. If I have his trust then it is guaranteed I will be safe, well, safe until I'm alone.
