I watched the clock tick in the room until I heard rustling shackles approaching. Looking opposite me I found Andrew staring right at me with a smirk on his face.
"Congratulations you lasted an entire day without visiting me. Unless it's been a week already?"
"No. No it hasn't. I don't want to know who stole Ariella. Not today."
"And he finally realises he's a clingy whore"
I cringed at the insult
"I want to know what I've gotten myself into."
"There's no way out. You've already agreed."
He stated accusingly
"I know that. I just want to know more. I'm struggli - I'm finding it difficult not knowing so much."
"Keeping you up?"
"Huh?"
"You've concealed a yawn twice so far, did you not sleep well last night?"
I looked away, yet again implying enough for Andrew to figure me out.
"You didn't sleep at all did you?"
"That doesn't matter"
"Yes it does. No wonder you arranged a visit, you can't help your curiosity. No one can. I couldn't when I first saw you in that clothing shop"
"I just want to know -"
"- you were so hot that day. Damn. No wonder I did what I did. You're so stressed now, you're still hot obviously. But this is taking its toll on you."
"Um thanks. Can you please tell me -"
"- Wonder if I can get you to fall for me again. There must be a tiny bit of lust in there somewhere otherwise you wouldn't keep running back to me like you did."
"That's off topic."
"You're right, sorry babe."
I glared at him but he just flashed his tantalising grin and a wink to finish it off.
"Just tell me the scale of what your part of the deal may include."
He stretched his arms causing the chains to rattle
"Ah, that depends on how difficult it is to get Ariella back."
"And what time scale would that be?"
"Why don't you ask the person who stole her?"
"But I don't -"
"- Oh yeah. My bad. You haven't figured it out yet. Puzzled little boy aren't ya?"
Giving up, I changed the subject hoping he'd answer the one question that has bugging me since the first visit.
"If it were difficult, really difficult, what would be the worst thing?"
"That I'd make you do?"
"Yes"
His eyes darkened and my head immediately stung, enough for me to raise a hand to feel it.
"Judging by your reaction I think you know now."
"N-No I don't. I can't remember."
"Remember what?"
"I-I can't..."
My head was really stinging now, it hurt to even figure out what I was trying to say.
"I'm no expert, and since you haven't told me what's up with your head, I'm pretty sure you're trying to remember the one thing your brain wants to forget."
"Wha-What is that supposed to mean?"
I forced out, he only grinned back
"Late August, three years ago. Evening sun beginning to set, it can be seen through the blinds. We had been teasing each other all day and mucking about, you especially teasing me without thinking of the consequences. Then I dragged you upstairs and -"
"Ugh! Make it stop!"
I shouted clutching the side of my head which was currently in agony. I know what Andrew is explaining, I've been told what he did. He's trying to get me to remember it, to lose it all over again.
"- Fine, I'll stop. I hope you get the idea of what I could do in the worst case scenario. For you that is, quite the opposite for me."
"After all you did, you'd still -?"
"You know I would, and I'd enjoy every part of it. Every part of you, every part of the evening and every tear that falls down your face. I'd love every moment of it."
I closed my eyes and took deep breaths, I just needed a moment to myself, without the sight of Andrew opposite me. When the pain eased I opened my eyes again.
"And how would you with this glass between us?"
"You'd arrange to see me without it. It's my part of the deal so you can't tell the authorities otherwise I'll expose you for making a deal with me. You wouldn't back out. You can't back out."
"I know."
I eyed the clock, it's been an hour and I still need to get more information out of him. Although he can easily outwit me and predict what I'm thinking cause that's the type of guy he is. I never managed to figure out how I can get him to lose his tough secrecy front. That's what's blocking me from what I need to know.
"Jon"
"What."
I snapped. He's intervening my thought process with every word, can't he leave me be for a second?
"You're biting your lip."
And with that, the idea was built. And I needed to go through with it before I ran out of time. I looked up at him with hooded eyes and innocently asked
"What's it to you?"
He looked away starting to get fidgety. Perfect.
"You have no idea how this can bite back"
"I like how that sounds."
His eyes darted to mine and I winked as I took the pen from the behind my ear and rested my arm on the desk.
"Please give me a teensy little hint. I'm begging you -"
In a split second my brain supplied the word that unlocked all the secrets
"- Sir."
He cleared his throat then in a husky voice replied
"What did you just call me?"
Victoriously I continued
"Sir. You heard, now why don't you give me a little clue and I'll call you Sir more often?"
He remained silent
"I know you'd like that wouldn't you Sir?"
"Shut it."
I indeed kept quiet, he'd be more likely to tell me stuff if I let him be when he wanted
"Think of the least likely person it could possibly be. Whether they're in another country or dead. That's all I'm saying and in terms of my part of the deal, you've just made my decision for me."
I shuddered as the bell rang and he was taken away, what have I done?
