It was getting dark outside, although the Lin scenario kept replaying in my head. What did he mean? Why did he get so upset by it? The kids had long fallen asleep as had Lin and I was left wide awake unable to rest. He didn't throw the tray to the ground he physically let go of it - did I trigger something? I watched as the early hours of the morning passed by and the sunrise began to creep through the curtains. No sleep at all, the best kind of rest.
"Morning, Jon."
I nodded at an uncomfortable Lin.
"I'll uh, bring breakfast up in a bit"
He quickly left continuing the strange behaviour. I reached for my phone to read a good morning text from Andy. Smiling to myself I quickly typed a reply rolling my eyes when he immediately went online to read it. I didn't read his next message in an effort to tease and instead read articles about what the Hamilton cast were up to. Some were absolute crap and were obviously fake which of course I took photos of, and sent them to who it was about with a bunch of laughing emojis. I received many texts not reacting to what I sent and just asking if I was okay. It was clear Lin kept them updated. The door was pushed open as again I shut off my phone and looked up at him while he prepared my breakfast on the tray. Shortly after he nodded to himself and left without a word and I listened to the sound of him pushing his chair in to his writing desk. Now he wouldn't be disturbed for hours. Slowly I got up and stretched before quietly moving towards Lin's bedroom and opening the door - surprisingly it was clean but one piece of paper rested on the table. Stacy's suicide note.
Dear Lin:
And here lies the family you were
too heartless to raise. If our child
survives this please give them a
good life.
Raise them as your own
and make sure to give them a
goodnight kiss from me every night.
Give them the surname Miranda
since it was all I wished for myself
and support them no matter what.
I hope you give them the love I never received and I hope you spoil them as much as you spoilt me.
I always loved you,
Adios mi amor.Heartless. I called him the exact same word last night. For him to react to one word from the letter that quickly means he must have this note burned into his memory, I have been so caught up in my struggles I haven't been checking in on him. That's why he told me to never call him heartless, because he can't stand another person thinking of him that way. I heard the door of the study click shut and Lin starting to walk upstairs, it was too late to bother trying to move since I can't run anyway and the secrets out.
"What are you doing in my room?"
I put the note back on the table and his eyes immediately latched onto the paper. No need for words, I slowly walked past him and out of the room, putting a hand on his shoulder as I left. He knew I understood now and I knew that he knew it too. In complete silence I closed my bedroom door behind me and got back into the bed, Lin shortly following me inside.
"I shouldn't of reacted so suddenly without explaining."
"I just found the explanation Lin it's alright, I understand."
He smiled at me and I smiled back.
"I mean, if you want, I don't want to push you, but do you want to come downstairs and hang out? We'll invite whoever you want to come round and you can chat."
I nodded and he took my arm and led me down the stairs slowly making sure I maintained my balance.
"Who do you want round?"
I thought for a long minute, there was really only one person who I was missing. Lin absolutely hates the guy though.
"Don't be mad"
I watched his face as Lin realised who I meant.
"Seriously? I mean, sure, but I'm staying in this room with you two the whole time."
I nodded and he borrowed my phone to call him.
"Hey, yeah it's Lin. I'm not calling you because I want to, yes Jon's okay, what? He wants you to come round, yes, I'll be there the whole time, not a chance. Bye."
I laughed as Lin handed me back my phone scowling.
"No one from the Hamilton cast?"
I shook my head. This is my guest. He sighed getting up to make coffees for the three of us, we sure were gonna need it. As Lin brought out the tray holding our mugs, milk pots and sugar I watched as he evidently put more sugar then normal into his. I found it all quite funny but judging by Lin's determination I kept quiet and stopped myself from laughing. The doorbell sounded and I rushed to my feet falling back to the sofa due to a lack of mental coordination. Lin rolled his eyes and went to answer the door.
"Hi."
He walked away leaving Andrew to take off his shoes and hang his coat up. I scowled at Lin and he lifted me up so I could greet the guest formally.
"Hello, sorry about that."
"He's got every reason to hate me and so have you, but some are more forgiving."
I heard Lin scoff behind me as I muttered to Andrew
"Play nice."
He smirked to himself at my wording and helped me sit back down before sitting next to me.
"Coffee?"
"Yes, caffeinated and all."
Lin rolled his eyes at me as Andrew smiled. This was going to be a long day.
"So, who's idea was it to let me join the party?"
I heavily nudged him in the arm causing him to wince as Lin held back a laugh. That was an ounce too cocky for my liking and I told him to play nice. I felt Andy's hand rest on my thigh as I saw Lin staring at it from across the room. I heard Andrew lean over, whispering in my ear
"You told me to play nice, game on."
