Inspiration:

this is actually an assignment I had to do for drama class after watching a play (as a creative response)! hope you enjoy ;)
the poem is named after this song by Adam Lambert I found just last night, but which I already have on loop because it's just so good TwT

dancing, dancing

through these words that spill from my lips, flowing across a room

a tale of love and of conflict, yet comedy

we are all entwined in this ever-ravelling web of

s t o r y

do I understand it?

we leap into universes, take ourselves far back in time, or forward -

each time breaking off a piece of our souls

to acquire, embrace the essence of another we come to understand

and whose essence we bring to the world, the people watching.

throwing ourselves into the mad rush of everything, baring our hearts in the most naked way possible -

laying everything out there for everyone to see.

yet it's not.

even through tiny inflections, tiny tics, tiny adjustments, tiny signals -

coloured fabrics, painted makeup, myriad-esque adornments -

sometimes the soul we embrace and yearn to bring to the audience

doesn't show everything immediately.

some wear their hearts on their sleeve, dancing, running round in circles, arms thrown out and embracing the air whilst crying out a lover's name, "oh, rosalind"

others lurk in the shadows, mostly with lips sealed, only occasionally coming forth with words that, in fact, capture great wisdom, "all the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players"

under the warmth of bright lights, we blaze

in red, love,

in blue, worry,

in yellow, thought.

every little detail has been paid, given its attention, the darting of eyes, the folding of arms, the little shared conversations that happen in the background -

we love, and love so fiercely

and we give everything of ourselves on a stage

such that we lose a piece of ourselves everytime we do

but such is that tragic beauty.

and I have fallen in love

with it.
