District One: Spencer Pierce

Fabulously stunning- I looked absolutely fabulous.

Well, that's what my  stylist wanted me to think, at least. I didn't really feel fabulous. And  honestly, the amount of times I had used the word fabulous was so  often, it was almost too much- Just almost.

I was never really good  with words, or being meaningful for that matter, and I wasn't good with  long, descriptive answers either. In District One, we were taught to be  ready, perfect, and be prepared for action. I was prepared, yet somehow I  wasn't. One mess up in my interview and I'll look like a fool. I didn't  want to mess up. But I don't want to go halfway down through the Games  as a tribute that won't even be remembered.

But really, interviews  are important. It's the first impression the Capitol gets of you, and if  they don't like you, you're sure to not come out of that arena alive.  And to do this right, I have to be as fabulous as possible.

Phalene goes for her  interview first. She's coming off as pretty much likable, and when she's  done her interview with Helvetica, the audience is still cheering for  her as she walks off the stage. "Move. It's your turn. Hurry up!" The  harsh voice of Parabella hisses at me from behind. I was about to  respond, but the voice of Helvetica gets my attention first.

"Next up, District One's  very own- Spencer Pierce!" She yells out to the audience. I let out a  deep breath, and then sauntered on to the stage, in a slow, relaxed  manner. I do not want to mess this up. I can't, and I won't. I have to  be perfect- but like how the old saying went, 'nobody is perfect'. I'm  the most perfect person in the world. Too bad.

I plop down on the white  plush chair, and give an unruly smile to Helvetica. "Hi!" I say to her,  putting out my hand for her to shake.

She shakes it gingerly,  and wastes no time with this, and gets on with the interview quickly.  "So, how are you Spencer?" Helvetica asks, with a somewhat malicious  smile plastered on her face.

I restrain myself from  using my obvious answer, but it comes out of my mouth without warning.  "I'm doing fabulous, and yourself?" I say with a grin.

"Fantastic," Helvetica  begins, edging to say something other than formal greetings. She begins  to start another question. "So, more about yourself. Personally, I  believe you always need a game plan to succeed anything. What is your  strategy in the games?"

"Well, right now my  strategy for the arena is to keep a good alliance steady, keep a good  portion of supplies, and do what I have to do to stay alive until the  very end."

"That's interesting.  Well, every Games has tributes who you know won't live past the  bloodbath. Do you believe you're one of those tributes?" She leers.

"No. I'm not bloodbath  bait, I plan on lasting long in the arena." I answer. "Well how far do  you hope to make it?" She asks once again.

"Why would anyone want  to die early in the games?" I counter. "I'm going to be victor. I want  to win this; and I'll do anything to win this. If I can't win, I hope  I'll make it far, to the very end of the Games." I answer quickly.

"Lots of people want to  be victor, don't they?" She says as an afterthought. "Now, we all have  someone back home cheering us on, or at least something we would do  anything to come back to. A motivation, of sorts. What's yours?" She  asks, turning to face me.

"I want to get back to  my family. I volunteered for Gliss, my twin sister, who was in last  year's Games- she didn't make it out. We had promised each other she  would volunteer that year, and I'd volunteer this year. I kept that  promise, and so here I am now. I want to win for her, to make her proud,  and to make my District proud. Gliss is my motivation to win this." I  answered, and I knew that I wanted the subject to be changed.
