Dauntless Male - Linkin Urie

"What if they try to  steal from us? What if they attack us in an act of extreme jealousy.  What if-" It was that pink haired girl and her blonde friend again. They  peered out the window of the rickety train, frowning as a bird flew too  close to the window. The blonde one shrieked, falling backwards. She  picked herself up, her cheeks a bright shade of pink. Her friend rambled  on. "What if-"

"What if I shove you out  the door of the train?" I snapped, opening a tired eyelid. I blinked a  few times, glaring. The girls looked over at me, staring with wide eyes.  Eventually, Pinky scowled before pulling her friend down to a different  compartment. I snuggled back into the rock hard chair, shivering  slightly. How those two idiotic girls got into Dauntless in the first  place, I will never know.

I quickly glanced around  the train, watching the different members of the faction interact with  each other. A group of boys my age were huddled together, laughing at  some joke that a black haired boy had told. I felt a tingle of jealousy,  deep down in the pit of my stomach. The only thing I could do was laugh  at myself. My life was void of friendship from the minute I was born.  Nothing about a new faction could change that.

Before I could sink  deeper into my pessimistic thoughts, a mechanical voice rang out of the  corners of the train. "Outskirts. Home of the Factionless." Factionless.  Still a better fate than Amity. The first time I was on a train, I was  forced to jump to a platform. This time, the train stopped completely,  allowing the cluster of children to pile out.

"I wonder where the  instructor is?" I heard a girl ask but I rolled my eyes, shoving past  her. Her dark eyes flashed a hateful glare before it was softened. I  walked in long strides away from the train station. "Wait, we have to  wait for the-"

I kept walking, going  faster than slowing. "You children wait for the teacher." I shouted into  the air. "I will be fearless and explore the scary Factionless." I  heard a laugh and a gasp, but I kept walking. To be Dauntless meant to  go off on your own path. Make your own rules. You don't use a teacher to  guide you around a city.

This part of town was  covered in filth, with dirt and grime covering the crumbling buildings.  Glass shattered the ground from a broken window. The abandoned building  was probably home to hundreds of different Factionless members. Where  they even members? They were outcasts.

A couple of Candor kids  scurried by, their eyes darting around the city. So it wasn't just  Dauntless spending a day with the Factionless. It was all the different  Factions. A chill ran down my spine.

I kept walking, watching  the different homeless people hobble around. "Sir?" One whispered, his  voice raspy and deep. "Sir, I need a coat. Please-" I looked at his  exposed arms, my fingers touching the zipper. At the last moment, I  shook my head.

"Go find one of those  Abnegation kids. They have to share." The man whimpered, watching me  with watery blue eyes. I pushed the guilt away, hurrying down a long  alleyway. I pulled the coat tighter around my body, feeling another  chill.

I loud scream rang out  through the air and I whipped around to the noise. A low moan came next,  and I hurried down the alley. There was a young boy sprawled on the  ground, his bright Amity jacket wrapped tightly against his body. An old  man stood above him, his hands in a tight fist. He brought his fist  down on the boy, who whimpered again.

"Just give me the  jacket, kid, and it will be all over." The boy shook his head, his  bright red hat popping off his head to reveal blonde hair. The older man  frowned, bringing his foot to the boys stomach. "I don't like that  answer."
