Clowns made of mud, bloodthirsty donkeys, and giant mangos who created smalltalk.
Just. Great.
Alea sat awkwardly between Papillion and Bluestone as she slowly sharpened her fan, readying it for the possible terrors to come.
"Well are we going to the ferris wheel or not?" Pebbles declared to the group standing up and wiping off the dust on her pants. "Fine then, lets go." Phalene said standing up also as Alea followed. The new arena was unfamiliar to Alea, eerie shadows blanketed the ground as the faint orange light from the dawn shone across the fair. Rising high above the scraggly surrounding trees was the ferris wheel, carts slowly rocking back and forth in the cool breeze.

Somewhere behind an abandoned popcorn stand, ten mud figures grew up out of the ground, wearing a wrinkled up clown suit with a clumpy afro clotted with mud as a wig. One by one, they walk out from behind the stand right in-front of the small group of careers.
"What the!" Phalene screeched as one of the creatures lurched out a large hand trying to grasp her neck. Quickly springing into action, Parabella pulled out her dagger and sliced off the mud clowns hand. The clown made a low hiss of pain as mud cascaded from the hole in his arm, steaming and shrinking into a pile of foul smelling mud.
"Lets get out of here!" Alea said giving a nervous look at the mud, waiting for it to grow back into a clown, but as they walked further and further away the pile still sat motionless. Once the mud was out of sight the flutters in Alea's stomach screeched to a halt as a blanket of comfort seemed to wrap around her. She was with two other well trained careers, possibly better then her. She wouldn't have to worry bout' nothing.
For now.
Somewhere out of sight, a shrilling bleat came out of one of the mutts, the followed by a low scream that could only belong to a male, and none of them wanted to think of what could be happening to that tribute at the moment. Six packs were stacked on top of each other, all in the very top cart of the rickety ferris wheel.
"I'lll go!" Phalene said as she started to walk towards the ride, but Pebbles ran up to stop her. Pulling Phalene close to herself, Pebbles hissed something to her face that Alea couldn't quite catch, but it whatever she said seemed to change Phalenes mind.
"Hey Alea, you are smaller then all of us, so it might just be easier for you to go." Phalene said ending with a sweet smile. Alea raised her eyebrows, but decided to keep her tongue tied and not start a fight. Clapping her hands on the sandy ground for an excuse of chalk, Alea wiped her hands along her pants before pulling herself up into the cart.
Rocking the cart back and forth to a shockingly extreme, Alea dropped to the floor of the cart frantically attaching herself to something. Looking up above her head, she saw the next cart was feet away, far to far to jump clear the gap safely.
Taking a deep breath, Alea shook out her arm as she gripped onto the large metal support beam, climbing her way up to the top cart. And for a girl who could barely fight properly with a sword, climbing the some two hundred feet climb of the ride would prove to be difficult.
Already struggling, yet not even half way, Alea was about ready to quit. She was getting no where in trying to climb this thing, her arms just got more and more tired the longer she sat still, and even trying to re grip made her muscles feel like tearing out. Panic set in as sweat start to form on her hands. "I'm going to die up here! Thats why they wanted me to go." Alea muttered as panic ebbed away, turning into rage.
Taking a long breath, Alea moved her right arm upwards, arms screaming in protest but she didn't listen. Going to move her left hand next, she took it slowly moving closer to the top cart. Sighing in relief as she pulled herself up to the small circle where all the beams collided, she rested for a moment before starting the climb again.
Yet only a few feet away the circle, Someone below screamed as the ride lurched into a violent shake.
"Alea! Hold on!" Pebbles yelled as Alea tightened her grip, glancing down to see what seemed to be a sort of animal bucking the support beams of the ride. To scared to move, Alea hung motionless over one hundred feet in the air, and there was nothing she could to to fix it. The two of them on the ground tried to fight the mutt, but they never got a good enough shot to make it stop, and each wound seemed to only make it more angry.
"You only have a few feet left! Just move!" Someone screamed as Alea looked up, the cart was within leaping distance, but yet she had no where to leap. Casting out all fear and panic, Alea only focused on moving one hand then moving the other as she slowly made her way to the cart. Finally breathing again as her feet landed on the cart.
Tossing around the six packs, Alea thew down both Pebbles and Phalene's back, not caring if they broke or not. Hands shaking, Alea ripped open her pack. In the pack was a fan. But it wasn't like her other fans, this one was wider, sharper, and all in all better. clearly a Capitol creation just for her. Also, a crumpled up paper that she pulled out with caution, not wanting to rip or tear it.
"Dear me." It said at the top, causing a small grin to spread onto Alea's red face.
"Who knows if you'll even be living to read this, but if you are I hope you are proud. Proud that even if you killed some people to get to this point, you're still at this point.
Just a friendly reminder to keep sane and not to turn into some bloodthirsty monster, and if you are now that thing, I don't know how you're going to live with yourself.
And also, You still got allies?
Kill them.
or leave.
get away.
and live.
~Alea"
Alea scanned the letter multiple times, her heart racing every time she read the last four lines.
"Alea! We got the donkey killed, well I did." Pebbles said as the cart started to move, but not back and forth but down. But when she jumped out of the cart, she wasn't expecting to see Phalene sprawled across the ground with a large dent in her face and leg.
two cannons went off, one by one.
"Looks like were in the top four, together!" Pebbles squealed, but Alea's stomach only did front flips.
"Yeah."
"Together."
