Dauntless Male - Linkin Urie

The stairs under me  groaned with pain, unable to carry my weight without crying out. I  ignored it, pressing on. The area was so familiar, I could fell the  memories on the tip of my brain, but I just couldn't remember.

"Damn it, Link. Get it  together." I shouted to myself, ignoring another creaking stair. The  house was covered in a layer of dust thicker than a chunk of my  oversized hair. Cobwebs darted from every angle, conveniently placed to  twist in my face.

My skin crawled at the  thought of the creature that created those awful webs, but I pushed that  out of my mind. I needed to focus on where I was.

My mind screamed at  me as I studied the painting on the wall. It was so familiar I could see  it blazing in my mind. The fear began to crawl on my skin, as the  thoughts remained in the dark space in my mind.

I needed to remember  this dark house before the fear of forgetting ate me alive. Was this  house from my dreams? Or an actual place? Where was I? My eyes drifted  towards a dusty chandelier, hanging crookedly over a large room. It was  gold under the gunk, with crystals hanging grandly from it. I gasped  slightly, the memories flooding back as if they were there the whole  time.

A snapshot of my hanging  from the chandelier pops into my mind, followed with Puck screaming at  me to get down. The fear in my chest radiated to a low level as the  memories came back. It was a relief, remembering. That way you were  defenseless. Without your memories, they could a trick you, convince you  of anything. Powerless.

I turned away from the  room, wondering back down the hallway. I hummed a familiar tune, rubbing  the tattoo that marked the base of my neck. My song was ended mid-note  when a loud crash came from a door. It was the last doorway at the end  of the hallway. I turned the knob slowly, pushing it open. It swing open  easily, the creak was lost in a loud scream. The scream came from deep  in my chest, ripping my throat as it pushed its way out. I turned  quickly, bolting from the door, but a hairy arm wrapped itself around  me. Another arm closed the door. Another scream ripped up as I noticed  the hundreds of eyes dotting the spiders face.

"Let me go!" I scream,  wiggling around wildly. My head pounded in my chest as I felt it breathe  its filthy spider breath on my face. My breathing came out quickly. I  couldn't even worry about the embarrassment of my fear. I felt my heart  beat even faster, as if it could rip its way out of my chest. It would  save me so much fear if I could just die. I could see fangs, sharp and  moist. The spider hit its head on the high ceiling, its body taking up  the entire room.

The size alone was  terrifying. I was going to die. Die by a giant spider. Realization  wedged its way in my head as the truth came out. It was all the game. I  just had to beat the spider and I could get out of this place. I just  had to look in its eyes. A shrill scream inched out as I faced it. The  eyes all reflected my face, my fear. I took a shaky breath and held my  gaze. It took a few seconds, but the spider eventually released its  grip, screaming in a strange, spidery way. It crumbled to ash in  minutes, before it was just a pile instead of a deadly creature. I  took a deep breath, trying to steady my breathing. I turned slightly my  eyes catching on a mirror. My hair was a mess, sweaty and covered in  dust. I wiped the moisture on my eyebrows away.

I turned away from the  mirror, ready for it to be over. I couldn't stand it anymore. I glanced  back, looking down at my clothing. The black apparel was replaced with  the most awful thing. Bright colors clothed me. The happiest yellows,  the brightest greens. I nearly tore them off before the pin of my chest  pricked my finger. A tree.

Amity. I grabbed at the  pin, and at the clothes, but they were glued to my body. I wasn't Link  Urie, the Dauntless daring boy. I was just Linkin Urie, the unwanted  Amity boy. I kept ripping but they were glued to me. I felt helplessness  sinking in before I did something I should have done minutes ago. My  fist collided with the mirror, shattering the bright clothing and the  awful memories. A bright white light erupted in my vision. Confusion  swarmed me. Was this death? Or had I won?
