Only three more tributes until I could get back home: the shrimp, the robot and the moron. I could win this. I knew I could. I had to win this, it was the only option left for me. Their deaths would be painless. It's not like I was a bad person for killing them like this. I was in a fight to the death after all. It was either kill or be killed.
I tested the darts out on Alea. I knew I had always liked Pebbles better anyway, and Alea wasn't even a real Career. She was just someone from District Four who happened to be good with some weapons. Alea didn't even flinch when the dart hit her back. She just collapsed, and her cannon fired.
Pebbles had been grateful. She had always hated Alea anyways. I was just doing Pebbles a favor by killing Alea. That's what I was doing. I was making Pebbles happy, and I was making sure the darts worked. It was totally harmless right?
"So who do we kill next? The robot from Three or the idiot from Eleven?" I asked. Pebbles seemed to flinch at the word 'kill.' I almost rolled my eyes. I couldn't believe she had chosen now to stop killing. She was in the top four of the Hunger Games! I almost wanted to call Pebbles the idiot.
I sighed. Pebbles was a good fighter, and I had no doubt that she would kill when it came down to the top two. It wasn't like she as going to help with Enver and Orchard anyway. I took out one of the darts from my pocket. I hesitated for a moment. Pebbles was my ally after all. She was the last one I had left. I hardened my resolve. I needed to win these Games. I needed to get back to Mom and Dad. I needed to get back to Glitz. Glamour would need an older sister. I needed to get back home.
I held the dart even tighter, and walked closer to Pebbles. She was walking quite a ways in front of me. I knew I could get up and get her if I needed that. She wouldn't see me anyway. I loaded the dart into the blowgun. I pointed the blowgun at Pebbles. She was still walking, hopefully looking for a tribute to kill. I raised the blowgun to my lips, and fired.
The dart lodged itself behind one of Pebbles' shoulder blades. "What the hell was that?" She shrieked suddenly. "That's weird, I don't feel anything anymore. It must have been a bee's sting." She said.
I watched from behind her, as her legs turned into jelly and she fell to the ground. I ran over to her now-limp body. Fear filled her big brown eyes, and her lips formed one last sentence. "You fucking bitch," She groaned. I could barely decipher her last words. A cannon's boom punctuated her final sentence.
I looked up at the sky above me. Storm clouds were gathering. Hopefully whatever rain that fell would short-out the robot. And I would just have to deal with the idiot from Eleven who thought it was a big board game. I could probably sit out most of the Game now. The robot was bound to find the idiot eventually, and then the rain would kill the robot. And then I wouldn't have to kill anyone, and worry about making sure their deaths were painless. Yes, it would be perfect for me to sit out the rest of these Games.
I waited patiently, underneath a partially destroyed tree. Of course, basically all of the trees here were at least partially destroyed. It was like the tributes here in the Games. All of us were broken a little bit, with twenty-five of the tributes dead. No, now there were twenty-six. Another cannon fired.
The storm clouds were still building up, and looked like it would be quite some time before any rain actually started coming out of them. I shook my head and stood up, deciding to walk over towards some place that the other tribute would know about. I thought about past Games. They typically ended somewhere near the Cornucopia. Most of the time, the Gamemakers had to drive tributes over there with Mutts or something else equally deadly.
