Quarterfinals: The Face of Guilt

Earlier in the day, the mirror had shattered.

Even as they settle for  the night, the tributes look at every step to make sure they don't step  on broken glass. The smallest injury could get infected and it's far too  late to be taken out by a stupid mistake. None of them realize they are  slowly getting used to this game of cat and mouse or to being both the  prey and the predator at once.

The arena is now ravaged  and destroyed; most of the branches are now lying on the ground, ripped  off by the reversed gravity. Those branches that survived are bent up  towards the sky, easily breakable. Music from the run-down carnival  haunts the tributes' hearing.

As every single mirror  in the funhouse has broken, making it almost impossible to walk, its  tributes have found seclusion in the woods. It is almost mind-boggling  to them when they see the stars in the purple night sky above them for  the first time in days. And then the faces decorate them.

Tobias Kraynor and Leaf Wintergreen.

Fillius' face beams down  at you, and it is obvious his smile is an unsuccessful attempt at  hiding the malice in his eyes. "Congratulations, tributes," he says, his  voice even, not betraying any emotion whatsoever. "This trial will be  over before you know it; there are only ten of you left. But the last  few challenges to come are difficult. A friendly face might light these  hard times."

"Throughout the arena,  we have installed five booths." Silence fills the arena as the tributes  look to their allies, confused, only to find they have vanished. "Yes,  five. We've paired you up against another tribute who should now be  close by, and we will not unlock the booth until you've killed them. But  when you do, a video conversation with a loved one awaits. You will be  able to speak for ten minutes and ten minutes only. Consider yourselves  lucky we have given you such mercy."

Out in the distance, the  tributes see a shape approaching them, not yet possible to identify.  Fillius' grin turns into a wicked smirk. "Ah, there we go! Oh, and one  more thing: as we cannot actually predict the outcome of these battles,  the winner will first have to have said conversation with the loved one  dedicated to the victim."

District Two, Parabella Bluestone (RappyTheDinosaur)

District Two, Fabron Eloi (Mr_Simple09)

District Three, Enver Code (MusicIsMySoul)

District Four, Alea Welsh (SwimmingInChocolate)

District Thirteen, Izellah Eridendra Fodere (Falluous)

Another big round of applause for these brace ladies and gentlemen!

Now, onto the requirements:

You must fight the  tribute you are paired up against, then have a brief conversation with a  loved one of theirs, then a brief conversation with your loved one.

You must send me two  ballot deaths. The entry death will not be counted because that's one  for everyone and seems a tad redundant.

Word Limit: 2000

Due Date: Saturday, August 24th at 8 PM EST.

Pairings:

Phalene Papillion and Parabella Bluestone

Fabron Eloi and Alea Welsh

Enver Code and Rye Quince

Ripley Stark and Izellah Eridendra Fodere

Clara-bell Iris Daisy Bluefarmly and Orchard Woods

(Izellah gets an instant  score of eleven and Alea gets an instant thirteen due to sponsor  benefits. This is the last task your score will count.)

-Six will be up for  votes, meaning only our top four will not have to worry about voting.  Four tributes will die, leaving us with our six semifinalists.

May the odds be ever in your favour,

Fillius Ravenscar
