Author: TheDarkHorse [8]
Name: Nathaniel "Nate" Morrison
Age: 13
Male
District Five
Physical Description:
Nate is a rather unassuming boy for his District. When looking through the crowd at the Reaping, he certainly didn't stand out, if you even saw him at all. Granted, this is in part due to his size. Since he never really has enough to eat, he's rather thin and his growth was stunted a little. He hopes he'll grow about another foot, just so that he's as tall as his dad, who is of average height.Just like many of the boys in his District, Nate's appearance always seems just a little unkempt. His mother, always one to keep up appearances, does her best to make sure he's clean when he gets out of the house, but there's nothing she can do after that. So, his neatly-trimmed, brown hair gets tousled, and his whole body gets smudged with dirt and oil. Still, none of these hide his wide, bright smile, or the knowing twinkle in his mud-brown eyes.
Personality:
A few of the ruder kids in his District would say that Nate's defining trait is that he's gay. Nate would respond by punching them in the face. He's always been sure of himself, and nobody can really remember a time that Nate ever doubted himself. Fearlessness, for Nate never really seems to have felt fear, is almost definitely his defining trait.Nate is also known for being a very physical, rough-and-tumble sort of boy. As a child, he would often get in trouble for roughhousing too much with his friends, all of whom have broken at least their noses by now. He faces things head on and without hesitation, without bothering to think them through very much. Who needs to think through a problem when you can fight your way out of it?
Background:
Nathaniel was born the oldest out of two children, to a middle class family in District Five. His parents both work in the middle of the District, the reason for their relative wealth, although they only can afford to live in the outskirts of Five. Both his parents are fine with it though, since they believe it instills virtues such as hard work in both Nate, and his younger brother James.Nate's childhood was like any other in the District. He went to a Capitol-funded primary school until he was ten, when he began working as an assistant to the boys who worked the pylons. He's still too small to actually work the pylons, but he moves stuff quickly and is known for being incredibly helpful, when he isn't goofing off somewhere.
The only sort of complication in Nate's life is his sexuality. But as soon as he found out he was attracted to boys, at about eight years old, he told everybody, and fought anyone who disagreed with him in any way. Now, since he doesn't talk about it much and isn't romantically involved with anyone, most people have just forgotten about it.
Reaped
Reaction:
Nate was shocked, and reasonably so - his name was only in there twice. However, he didn't let it faze him, and jogged up to the stage. Maybe the sponsors would like his spirit.Strengths:
Nate is fearless, or at least he likes to think he is. He's certain that nothing in the Games will be able to startle him in the slightest. For his age, Nate is both very fast and pretty strong. He knows he won't be the fastest or the strongest, and he knows this for certain, but he think that he'll be able to put up a fight against some of the faster and stronger tributes.
Nate is determined to get home. I mean, how silly would it be for his life to end this early? He knows he's not quite done with life yet.
Weaknesses:
Nate is headstrong, and usually doesn't think things through enough. If there's a situation that requires him to really think things through, he'll probably slip up and fall. After all is said and done, Nate is still a thirteen year old, and one that doesn't have any experience with weapons. No matter what he thinks, he's definitely the underdog in the situation.
Back home, Nate has somewhat of a reputation for picking fights where he shouldn't. At worst, it lands him with a black eye and a bloody nose back home. In the arena, it could very easily end with his death.
Weapon:
He's used to getting into fistfights back home, and considers himself quite skilled at hand-to-hand combat. However, just for extra protection, he'd pick up a small weapon like a dagger.Token:
His mother quickly wrote a note for him in the Justice Building. Although Nate pretended like he didn't want something so sentimental, he wants to keep it safe for the whole Games. He really loves his family.Wish:
Nate had never really given much thought to what his greatest wish might be before the Games began, he decided that he just wants his family and his friends to be safe.
