"Jimin, you know you have to declare your major by the end of your sophomore year, right?"

Jimin's dad said after swallowing a forkful of food. The family was currently eating dinner.

The new school year is about to start in just little over a week and Jimin's nervous, extremely nervous. He was glad he doesn't have to go to work with this dad during the school year, but he was nervous about his classes, grades, declaring his major, and not having any classes with Yoongi. Yoongi is going to be a senior and Jimin is going to be a sophomore and they don't really have any more classes they could take with each other.

"I know dad." Jimin said quietly.

"So when are you going to do it?" He asked, impatiently.

"When I figure out what I want to do. I have until the end of the year."

"Well you better figure it out fast. And make a smart decision, you know, business is the smartest..." He started saying before Jimin cut him off.

"I don't know if I want to do that, dad." Jimin sat back in his chair and looked at his dad. "I want to do something else." His heart was pounding but he was hoping his stern and confident demeanor would get his dad off of his back.

His father looked at him, his forkful of food frozen in place.

His mom looked worriedly between the two, but stayed silent, as per usual.

"What do you mean you want to do something else? Like what?" His dad asked condescendingly.

"I don't know, maybe Psychology or Social Work." It wasn't a lie. He was interested in both. He could learn more about things he's always be interested in and maybe have a chance to actually help someone in his position in the future.

His dad scoffed as if it was the silliest thing he's ever heard.

"Yeah right. What boy wants to major in that? Don't be ridiculous, Jimin."

Jimin just sat there and looked at his dad. How could he say something like that? He wasn't really surprised that he made a comment like that, but it still hurt.

"I'm just not passionate about business, dad. I don't want to do it. I'm sorry." He said trying not to get angry or flat out cry.

"I'm not passionate about business either, Jimin. But you need to make money. What are you going to do when you're older and it's time to get a job, a real job, not one where you work with me." Jimin's dad was the one that insisted he worked for him, how could he hold that against him?

"I don't know yet, but I can find something. I want to do something I like. I don't want to be miserable all the time." He wanted to add miserable like you but he decided against it, he didn't want to get in trouble too much.

Jimin's dad shook his head. "We'll talk about this at a later time, when you come to your senses." He said and continued eating. He dismissed Jimin's feelings just like that. Jimin wanted to cry. In fact, he was just about to. "I'm not paying for you to go to college for nothing, come on now."

Jimin fought to hold back his tears. He understood that his dad was paying for his tuition in full, he was very grateful, but he wanted to do something he loved, something he wanted. What's the point of doing something that he has no joy in? He wouldn't do well anyway. His heart wouldn't be in it.
