~ Mini Korean Vocab Guide ~

Annyeong my lovely readers. Honestly I don't know why I haven't decided to make this until now. But this is basically what the title says, a small guide to the Korean words I use in my stories. I thought this would also help you guys learn Hangul if you've ever been interested ^^

Basic Phrases:

Ani (아니) - No

Annyeonghaseyo / Annyeong (안녕) - Hi or bye; Annyeonghaseyo is formal whereas annyeong is informal and more for your friends or someone younger than you.

Ara (알아) - I know

Arrasso (알았어) - literally translates, "I see what you said." In other words, it means "I understand" or "ok." 

Chongmal / Jinja? (정말) - Really? Chongmal is formal, jinja is informal

Choesonghamnida / Choeseonghaeyo / Mianhae<yo> (죄송합니다) - I'm sorry; choesonghamnida/haeyo is formal and mianhae is informal

Gwaenchana? (괜찮아)- Are you okay?

Gwiyeopda (귀엽다) - Cute

Jal ga (잘가) - Goodbye, informal

Jal jasseo? (잘잤어) - Did you sleep well? (This is how Koreans commonly greet each other in the morning)

Kaja (가자) - Let's go

Kamshamnida / Gomawo (감사합니다) - Thank you; kamshamnida is formal and gomawo is informal

Meogda (먹다) - To eat. I might also put, meogo

Masissineun (맛있는) - Delicious, yummy (foodwise)

Nado (나도) - Me too

Ne (네) - Yes

Saranghamnida/saranghae<yo> (사랑해) - I love you. People may also say nado saranghae which means I love you too

Yaksok (약속) - Promise

Honorifics/Titles:

Abeoji / Appa (아빠) - Father, dad; Abeoji is more formal though

Ahjumma (아줌마) - miss, ma'am for someone who is older than you. Typically a lot older than you.

Ahjussi (아저씨) - mister, sir for someone who is older than you. Typically a lot older than you.

Dongsaeng (동생) - younger sibling; there is also namdongsaeng (younger brother) and yeodongsaeng (younger sister)

Eomeoni / Eomma (엄마) - Mother, mom; Eomeoni is more formal though

Halmeoni (할머니) - Grandmother

Haraboji (할아버지) - Grandfather

Hoobae (후배) - A person with less experience (at work, school, etc)

Hyung (형) - an older brother or a guy friend who is older for boys Ex: Jungkook calls Suga, Yoongi Hyung because he is older

Jagiya (자기야) - honey, sweetie, love, darling. This name is commonly used among couples and can be between unmarried or married couples.

Noona (누나) - older sister or older girl friend who is older for guys Ex: Hobi calls his sister, "Noona" because she is older.

Oppa (오빠) - used for what a sister calls her older brother,  cousin, close guy friend. Any man that is older than you if you're a girl. Ex: Since I'm a girl, I would call Jin, Jin Oppa or Seokjin Oppa 

Eonnie (언니) - older sister or older girl friend who is older for girls Ex: I call a close friend of mine "Eonnie" because she's older than me

Sunbae (선배) - A person with more experience (at work, school, etc)

Yeobo (여보) - This name is used typically among married couples, calling for one's own husband or wife.

- ah/- yah (아/야 ) - this is usually at the end of a person's name, typically someone who is younger or of lower position than you ah is used for names that end with consonants and yah is used for names that end with vowels. Ex: Jungkook-ah, Eun Ji-yah

-ssi (씨) - Mr., Mrs., Ms.; general honorific used at the end of a person's name or someone that is considered equal to you but unfamiliar with as well. Ex: Jimin-ssi

This obviously does not cover everything, but these are generally the terms I use in this book. I hope you have found this helpful for when you read this book and others that use Korean words. I also hope that you were able to learn the meaning of these words if you didn't already.
