"Aish," Eunji murmured miserably to herself as she threw away probably the hundredth tissue she used in an hour.
Eunji had been keeping a good record of not getting sick up until now. Of all things, she just had to catch the crappy common cold from her friend. The downside was that the typically bearable sickness hit her ten times worse. So now she was left sniffing or blowing her nose 24/7 and very low energy.
It didn't help that finals were coming up, when Eunji needed to prioritize studying. The situation was becoming overwhelming and no matter how much Eunji tried to ignore her pest of a runny nose, she couldn't fully concentrate on the important schoolwork she needed to complete.
"Jagiya!" Eunji's mood instantly brightened when she heard the voice of her boyfriend in the halls. She turned around and smiled as the boy crashed her into a hug and kiss on the forehead.
"Hello to you too Kookie," Eunji chuckled and pulled away. Not that she wanted to, but she was wary of getting him sick. She would feel way too guilty. "How was math today?"
"I still understand nothing," Jungkook sighed. The two begin walking towards the bus lot outside of the school. "But Namjoon hyung will help me out and then I'll just cram for finals and-"
Eunji tried her best to listen as Jungkook told her about his strategies for finals, but found herself spacing out in the end. Not that she wasn't interested in what he had to say, my stupid brain just isn't functioning.
"Jagi?" Jungkook slightly waved his hand in front of Eunji's face. "Are you okay?"
"Hm? O-oh I'm fine," Eunji snapped back to reality. This stupid cold is getting to my head.
"Oh okay," Jungkook said, quick to believe her. He then continued to tell Eunji about his day as she listened quietly.
Jungkook would worry if he knew that she was sick and she didn't want that. Besides, simply seeing that boy's smile made her feel a tiny bit better.
The next day Eunji wasn't much better, in fact even worse. Yet she still refused to miss school, not wanting to miss anything important in class. Everything would tie back to finals so Eunji couldn't afford to miss the slightest detail. Enduring her nose that annoyed her beyond measures right now, her slight headache and weak body, Eunji went about the usual school day.
Eunji barely talked around her friends, not finding the energy to add her usual sarcastic comments. By the end of the day, Eunji was so exhausted that she walked home without Jungkook. I'll just text him later saying I had a lot of homework to get started on. Not like she would be lying anyway, she did have a pound of homework in her bag.
Jungkook was confused and worried when he received her text.
"What's wrong JK?" Jimin asked, swinging his arm around his dongsaeng's shoulders.
Jungkook scratched his head, "Eunji walked home without me and she's been seeming off lately."
"You noticed too?" Taehyung piped in. "She was rubbing her nose a lot in English and looked like she was about to cry."
Jungkook's eyes widened in concern, "Jinja?"
Taehyung nodded. "Now that I think about it her face was pretty pale the last time I saw her," Jin added.
"Oh and I saw her sniffling quite a bit during math," Hoseok said.
Yoongi facepalmed, "She's probably gotten sick, you pabos!"
"How do you know?" Namjoon asked.
"It's pretty obvious if you know the symptoms of a cold," Yoongi scowled, clearly annoyed with his friends.
"Aw poor Eunji, she must be stressed with all the work we have this week," Jimin pouted.
Jungkook's worry increased to a 100 now. Why didn't she tell me?
"Hyung what should I do?" The boy asked. He was never good at knowing what to do in these situations.
Jin put his hand on his dongsaeng's shoulder, "Well you should go take care of her, like buy her soup or something."
Jungkook let his hyungs give more advice and later that evening he headed to Eunji's house. Her parents were on a business trip, so she was alone in the house for a week.
"Jungkook? I didn't know you were coming," Eunji said, trying to hide the fact that she had just been furiously blowing into numerous tissues.
Instead of responding, Jungkook placed his hand on Eunji's forehead.
"Kim Eunji, you're burning up!" Jungkook said in a serious tone. "Why didn't you tell me that you're sick?"
Eunji immediately shrank down, "Mi-mianhae. I just didn't want to worry you."
The innocent remorse on her face melted Jungkook's heart. He sighed and softened his gaze on her.
"Aigoo Jagi, I don't mind worrying about you," He said caressing her cheek. "You need to tell me these things."
"Wae?" Eunji asked, relaxing into his touch.
Jungkook held up the cloth bag in his hand, "So I can make you feel better, duh!"
Taking her hand and leading over to the dining room, Jungkook placed the bag on the table and took out a big blue thermos.
"I had Jin hyung make kimchi jjigae because that's your favorite, especially when you're sick," Jungkook explained, tapping his fingers on the container. "I also brought some vapor rub to relieve your congestion and-"
"Jungkook..." Eunji said quietly. "This is all very sweet but I have to study..."
Jungkook immediately rejected her stubbornness, "Ani, your health is first Eunji-yah."
With Jungkook's cute pouting and nagging, Eunji gave in and let him do as he pleased. Even though she told him that she was perfectly capable of feeding herself, he insisted on feeding the spicy stew in spoonfuls to her. Then he proceeded to apply the vapor rub on her throat.
"Gomawoyo Jungkookie," Eunji said, feeling truly grateful as he dabbed a cool wet cloth against her heated head. "I don't deserve to be taken care of like this."
"Yes you do," Jungkook said. "You always take care of me when I'm sick, it's only fair I do the same."
Placing the wet cloth on the nightstand, he opens the blanket to get under the covers with her and cuddle.
"Aigoo, you're so sweet Kookie," Eunji sighed, as her fingers played with his hair.
Jungkook lifted his head and pressed a kiss on her lips. "Jungkook! You're going to get sick too," Eunji scolded him.
Jungkook ignored her and kissed her again, "I don't care. We'll be sick together."
Eunji rolled her eyes and rested her head against his chest. The sound of his heart beating rhythmically, soothed her causing her to doze off into a much needed sleep. Jungkook smiled when he saw this and kissed her once more on her head before falling asleep too.
"Jal ja Jagiya."
