"My son...you must marry," Queen Dowager said. She was growing weaker every day and it showed.

Jungkook bowed his head. He knew his marriage was for the purpose of having a queen when he took his throne. He knew that he was at the age where he was expected to marry. But did he really have to do that now?

There was a problem too. His mother had only one brother. He had only one son and a daughter who was barely thirteen. She wasn't the right age to marry. But without a female relative, Jungkook wouldn't be able to produce a pure blood heir.

"Who will I marry?" Jungkook asked, trying to speak without emotion. He wouldn't be selfish and show how much it broke him seeing his mother like this.

"You will have to marry my niece," Queen Dowager said. "We have no other choice."

Jungkook didn't want to marry his cousin, much less a minor. He hated the idea, despised it. Not when his heart was already set on someone else.

"I can't," Jungkook said accidentally letting it slip.

His mom looked at him with quick anger flaring in her eyes, "Wh-what did you say?"

"I won't marry your niece," Jungkook said, suddenly feeling angry. "I will choose my own bride, if I must marry."

"You do not have a choice Jungkook!" His mother croaked. "It is your duty as the crowned prince of Goguryeo, you cannot be selfish at a time like this."

Jungkook left the room without another room. He was selfish, and he already regretted lashing out at his mother. But he just couldn't think about having a wife that was forced. Not when he only had eyes for one girl. Speaking of, that's where Jungkook was going to.

"Are you okay?" Eunji asked, after Jungkook had come to her so without any warning. He looked so frustrated, so Eunji offered him some fresh garaetteok she just made. He stuffed his mouth, eating three of them.

Jungkook shook his head. He had learned to not lie around Eunji. One because they promised to always tell each other the truth, and also because Eunji was good at telling whether Jungkook was lying or not. She already found out that Jungkook wasn't actually a visitor here. It took a lot of convincing to tell Eunji that he was the son of a royal official and didn't go outside very often.

"Not really," He confessed.

Ever since the day they made an agreement, Jungkook visited Eunji almost every day. Eunji was surprised with how comfortable she became around Jungkook. He always listened to what she had to say without complaining and gave his best response. Though she didn't like usually talking about her emotions, she felt okay doing it with him. She had grown fond of Jungkook.

On the other hand, Jungkook had been a little more reserved than Eunji. For one thing, he couldn't tell her that he was the crowned prince of Goguryeo and is supposed to take over as king soon. But he did his best to talk about little things that may have irritated him that day. Right now, Jungkook felt like he was going to go insane.

"M-my mother is really sick," Jungkook said, looking away. "Sh-she doesn't have long left."

Eunji was surprised, hearing this. Jungkook didn't talk about his emotions half as much as he allowed her too. Now all of sudden he told her that his mother is ill? How long has he hidden this? Did he not trust her?

"I...I'm sorry for not telling you," Jungkook said, meeting her gaze with teary eyes. "But I didn't want you to worry about me."

Eunji sighed, "Oh Jungkookie, you shouldn't think like that."
