Broken

Her hands trembled as she dragged the scissors across her skin. The sting of her blood was nothing compared to the pain in her heart. She was done. So done with this screwed up life of hers.

Suddenly the vibration of her phone brings her back to reality. Glancing at the caller ID, she grabbed her phone and clicks the green button.

"Jagiii" His sweet voice spoke through the phone.

Hearing his voice only made the tears return, "J-Jungkook-ah."

"Eunji-yah? What's wrong?" His voice quickly switched from cheerful to worried.

She tried to respond but was stopped by the sobs that escaped her throat.

"Don't worry Jagi, I'll come to you," Jungkook said without hesitation. "Hang in there."

She didn't hang up and listened to his voice as he quickly drove to her place. Not wanting him to come inside her house, she got up on her weak legs and came outside.

Jungkook pulled up by her house and got out of the car as fast as possible to pull her into his embrace. She sobs into his coat, the tears seemed to be endless.

"It's okay, I'm here now," He whispered in her hair, kissing her temple.

He brought her into his car and drove back to his dorm. By the time they got back, Eunji had stopped crying.

"Eunji-yah, are you okay?" Jin had asked when he saw the redness under her eyes.

Jungkook gave a knowing look to the elder, "Hyung."

"I understand. Feel better Eunji," He nodded understandingly, and went off into his room.

Without saying anything, Jungkook led her into his bedroom and began to clean her cuts with the first aid kit.

"You must be ashamed of me," She murmured, watching him wrap the bandages around her cuts.

Jungkook frowned and met her eyes. Seeing them, they looked so broken. Jungkook wished that he could just take away all her pain, to take away the sadness in those beautiful eyes.

"I'm not," He said brushing her hair out of her face. "But are you going to tell me what made you do this to yourself?"

Tears quickly returned as the memory came back to her.

"Okay let's sing happy birthday to me," Eomma said, sitting down in her seat. Her husband was wearing a look of clear frustration and distress and said nothing.

She glanced over to her daughters, "I only get to turn 41 once."

As the eldest, Eunji nodded and smiled for her mom and her younger sisters did the same.

"Let's take a photo," Eomma says. "Honey?"

Appa sighed and took his phone for everyone to take a picture.

Eomma frowned, "No I wanted you to set up the camera like you did for Eunmi's birthday."

Eunji held in her breath, knowing that this couldn't end well. The air was filled with anguish. She hated it. Hated that they had to pretend to be a perfect family.

"I don't have the capability for that right now," he said in exasperation. He had gotten into another heated argument with his wife and clearly didn't have the energy to celebrate.

Eomma tugged on his arm, "Honey please."

He gave no response. His wife sighed and walked back upstairs to her bedroom where she had spent most of the day. Appa was quick to leave after her.

Eunji clenched her fists tightly, not wanting to fall apart in front of her sisters. But she couldn't hold it in and left to her room too.

She slid down the closed door of her bedroom and everything came crashing down at once. Her mother's spoiled birthday, her parent's prior argument, and how her father yelled at her. She hated it. Hated herself and her life. She was broken.

"Tomorrow they're just going to act like nothing happened," Eunji said, tears silently falling out of her eyes. "Pretend like we're fine, and we're a normal family."

Jungkook pulled the broken girl into his embrace, "I'm sorry you had to go through that. It must be hard for you."

Hearing those words only came from Jungkook. It made her cry harder into his chest. Her tears made Jungkook's hoodie damp but he could care less. He hated seeing someone he loved so much like this, broken.

"I'm here for you," he told her, rubbing her back in circles. "Everything is going to be okay, I promise."

These were the words she needed to hear. She was selfish, and she knew that. But all she wanted is for someone to hug her like this and comfort her. Someone to tell her that everything is okay, and someone to reassure her that she's not crazy.

"Th-thank you," She said softly, her voice weak. "I don't know how you can love someone as broken as me."

Jungkook kissed her gently before saying, "Broken things can be fixed, Jagi."
