Madelyn sat in the counselor's office again on Thursday. She knew that the woman was going to dive into the relationship she had with her children which meant letting her in on what happened with Corey to an extent. She was nervous about it. Marshall and Hailie had the boys today. They had gone out shopping which always scared Madelyn.

"Madelyn," the woman called.

Madelyn stood and smiled at her. They walked back to her office together as they small talked about the last two days.

"All right so Tuesday we talked about your husband. I know we are going to talk about your kids today but I want to know what kind of a father your husband is first," Sierra said.
"He is a great dad to our kids. He is there when they need him and would do anything for them," Madelyn said.
"I admit I went and read a few reports about the incident that he demanded you abort."
"It was such a shock to us both."
"Let me ask you, do you spend majority of your time defending him?"
"No, he really is a good father. He struggled when we found out I was expecting our first. So did I. We used birth control. It wasn't effective with either of our boys. He didn't tell any of the media outlets that."
"He likes people thinking he is a jerk?"
"Are you my therapist or a fan dead set on learning about my husband?"

Madelyn stood and walked out. She wasn't in the mood to listen to someone else bash a man they only saw in the media. Marshall was nothing like that and the incident that she referred to was a screwed up situation. Madelyn drove home, completely pissed off.

Marshall and Hailie were in the kitchen while the boys napped. Marshall looked surprised to see her so quickly. She shook her head.

"Back to square one," she said.
"What happened?" he asked.
"She was dead set on you being the bad guy in my life because she read an article about Maverick."
"Baby, I am the bad guy in your life."
"No you are not and don't you ever say that again."

She pointed a finger at him. He chuckled and moved in to put his arms around her. She leaned back into his chest.

"Tell me what happened," he said softly.
"She wanted to know if you were a good father and if I always had to defend you." Madelyn replied.
"Well you do."
"You are my husband. I support you 100% especially in public. If it needs corrected, we do that shit behind closed doors."

He knew she was mad because she was swearing. He gave her a look of surprise and she blushed instantly.

"Sorry Hailie," she said.

Hailie just shrugged. She watched the two of them as they stood in the kitchen. She was glad that her dad had finally found someone to really love and support him. She knew that he put out songs that caused a lot of drama.

"I will find someone new," Madelyn said.

Marshall nodded. He kissed the side of her head. It was hot knowing that his wife would defend him whether he was there or not. She also called the center to complain about how unprofessional the therapist had been about the situation. She was livid that it had even occurred.

She managed to find another place to go and this was an individualized place. She went to the office for the first appointment.

"Good morning, Mrs. Mathers, I am Dr. Coleman," the woman smiled.
"Morning," Madelyn replied.
"Tell me about what brings you to me."

Madelyn told her about the previous experience with the other place. The doctor only nodded and took notes.

"Tell me about your family," she said.
"I have an amazing husband. We have been thru a bit and made it to the other side together. We have three beautiful girls and two ridiculously handsome boys," Madelyn beamed with pride.
"Five children? How long have you been married?"
"Almost 6 years."
"How old are the children?"
"The girls are technically only his. They are adults except for Whitney. She is almost 17."
"And your boys?"
"Maverick is almost 4. Malakai will be 2 in April."
"Do you plan on any more?"
"We have talked about one more. We want to try for a girl."

The doctor nodded.

"Now what brings you to see me. You sound like you have an amazing family and you look extremely happy when you talk about them," Dr. Coleman said.
"I have a trial for an ex coming up. It was the end of what started as an extremely abusive childhood that I haven't really worked through," Madelyn replied.
"Well let's talk about that."

Madelyn nodded. She was nervous about it.

"Tell me about your biological family. Parents, siblings?" Dr. Coleman said.
"I had both parents and a brother until DCS removed me at 8," Madelyn said.
"Why did they remove you? Was it only you who was removed?"
"I was removed for a failure to protect because my brother beat on me daily and it led to broken bones, scars, and he threatened sexual abuse. I told a teacher at school when I came in with a black eye. She reported it and they investigated."

Flashback

Eight year old Madelyn sat in the office waiting on someone to show up. Her eye was practically swollen shut and her wrist hurt every time she moved it. A woman walked in with the principal and they both stopped in front of her. Madelyn looked up at them.

"Madelyn Jaycobs?" the woman asked.
"Yes," Madelyn answered quietly.
"Who did this to you?"
"My brother, James."
"Do your parents ever stop him?"

Madelyn shook her head. She was scared about what was going to happen. It was later that day that she was allowed to go home and pack a small bag. Then the woman took her to another family. It wasn't much better there. She was then bounced around until high school.

End

Madelyn was in tears as she spoke about the past. She had never really felt loved as a child. Her parents always acted as if she was in the way and James knocked the crap out of her regularly. She just wanted to go home and curl up in Marshall's arms where she felt safe. He wasn't even home though. He had flown to LA to work on his album. She knew he would call that night but she hated feeling like this.

"This is not going to be easy for you at all Madelyn," Dr. Coleman said.

She nodded her head.

"To get thru it all, we are going to have to go thru some really tough things obviously. Some you may have even buried to be able to cope. But I promise if you stick with it, I won't give up on you," Dr. Coleman continued.
"All right," Madelyn sniffed.

She left the office with her next appointment in hand. She went to pick up the boys from Nate. He grew concerned when he saw her face. She tried to smile at him. He pulled her in the house. He knew his brother was gone.

"What happened chick?" he asked.
"Just dealing with some past ridiculousness," she said.
"You know we love you Madelyn. You have changed my brother for the better. He really loves you."

She nodded. She knew that Marshall loved her. She loved him too. He was always trying to do what he thought was best for his family.

"Madelyn, you know he would do anything to help you," Nathan said.
"I know Nate. It's just hard going thru it with someone and not being able to come home to him," she replied.
"I can understand that. I'm sorry."
"I know he needs to work. I just wish he was at home right now."

Nate nodded. Maverick came in the room and out his arms up to her. She smiled and picked him up. He wrapped his arms around her neck. She kissed his cheek.

"I love you buddy," she said.
"Love you mama," Maverick replied.
"Where's your brother?"
"In there."

He pointed toward the living room. She nodded. Nate pulled her into a hug after she put Maverick down.

"I know I'm not Marshall," he said.

She laughed as she hugged him back.

"You definitely are not Marshall but you are a damn good brother," she said.
"I try," he chuckled.

She loaded up her boys and headed back to her empty house. Marshall called just before bedtime to talk to the boys. He seemed distant with her. She wasn't sure why. She put the boys to bed and hoped that he would call again but he didn't.
