The viewing was the Friday after things began to open up around town again. They decided to leave Malakai and the triplets home with Hailie and Alaina. Maverick went along with them. He was the only one that would wear a mask without complaining. Having to wear a mask worked for Marshall. He wouldn't have people who weren't relatives and didn't know about him, in his business. He took his wife's hand as they pulled up to the funeral home.

"Daddy, why are we here?" Maverick asked.

"We have to say goodbye to grandpa," Marshall told him.

"Why?"

"He died and went to heaven."

Madelyn scoffed quietly. Marshall squeezed her hand and stared at her for a minute. She smiled at him. He shook his head, a small smirk playing on his lips.

"And people say I'm bad," he said.

"You are," she agreed.

He rolled his eyes. They got out of the car and headed inside. Madelyn found James right away and hugged him. He shook Marshall's hand and looked down at the little boy who had Marshall's other hand.

"Hey bud, I'm your uncle James," he said.

"My name is Maverick," the little boy said.

"You are your mommy's oldest?"

"No, Alaina's the oldest."

Marshall just watched, trying not to laugh. Maverick didn't distinguish between the fact that Alaina, Hailie, and Whitney had another mom. Madelyn was talking to Staci.

"These are our kids. JJ and Stephanie," Staci said, of the two little kids by her.

"They are adorable. You should see how big the triplets are now. It's crazy how fast they grow and how they all have such different personalities," Madelyn said.

"I bet."

Madelyn showed Staci pictures of the other kids that were at home. Staci couldn't believe how much they looked like their father. Maverick was staring up at them. Marshall had let go of Maverick's hand. He was just standing between his parents. He kept watching the casket at the front of the room. Madelyn looked down at her little boy.

"Maverick, what's wrong baby?" she asked.

"Mama, is he in there?" Maverick asked.

It distracted Marshall enough that he looked at his son. He hadn't thought about that part when he agreed to bring his oldest son with him. Maverick had asked to go. He wanted to leave the house after being stuck for so many weeks. Marshall reached down and picked up his five year old son. He settled the boy in his arms for a moment.

"Yeah buddy, he's in there. Do you want to go see?" he asked.

Maverick shook his head hard and put his chin on Marshall's shoulder. Madelyn's eyes had widened when Marshall asked him that question. He looked over at her and she just stared at him. He shrugged. Maverick wrapped his arms around his father's neck. Marshall hugged his little boy.

"Ok, we don't have to go up there," he said.

"Ok," Maverick replied.

They were approached from quite a few relatives. Maverick remained in his father's arms, ignoring everyone. He had picked up the quiet shy side from his father in crowds. He glanced over at his mother. Marshall was holding Maverick with one arm and had the other around his wife. He wasn't letting her get very far from him. She was dealing with the family in the best way that she knew how. Her mother arrived which shocked both Madelyn and James. Madelyn moved into Marshall.
