Madelyn was bathing the triplets when her husband walked in. He smiled as he watched her with the kids. Whitney had returned to her mother's place. He helped her finished up the kids baths and get them in bed. He pulled his wife down the hall once all the kids were in bed. She chuckled at him. He pulled her into a kiss. They headed to bed.
They both woke to the alarm going off in their room. She went to check on the kids and he went to see what was going on. She could hear him talking to someone as she made her way out of the nursery. She quietly edged her way down the stairs. She saw him talking to some guy in the living room. She remained hidden on the stairs, but was able to catch Marshall's eye. He gently shook his head so it wasn't noticeable to the guy.
"What are you doing man?" Marshall asked.
"I just wanted to meet you," the man replied.
"So you decided to break in?"
"It was a last resort."
"My family is here man. You scared them all."
"I'm sorry dude. I really am. I ain't mean to scare anyone."
"You broke into my home in the middle of the night."
The man dropped his head. Marshall kept his attention in the living room. He was worried about what would happen if the guy realized that Madelyn was on the stairs. He was silently wishing that she would go back up to their room so he knew that she was safe.
She stayed where she was until the police and security arrived in the house. They arrested the guy. As soon as he was in handcuffs, she went down the stairs to her husband. He wrapped his arm around her.
"Baby, how the hell did he get in here?" she asked.
"Back window." he said.
She nodded. He held her close to him while he answered the officers questions. She was shaking and obviously nervous. He kissed the side of her head. He sighed heavily as he was tired now. It was a few hours before his house cleared out and they could go to bed. He led his wife up the stairs and to their room.
"Marshall, what if he would have hurt you?" she asked.
"Baby, I was more worried about him figuring out that you were on the stairs," he said.
"I'm sorry."
"We are going to have to up security around here,"
She nodded as they lay back in their bed. She was wide awake now as was he.
"Baby," he said.
"What?" she asked.
"Get some sleep. I'm gonna check on the kids."
"Marshall,"
"Mads, just relax. It's all right now. He's gone and we are all right."
She shook her head, the tears threatening to spill over now. He sighed heavily and moved back over to her. He pulled her into his arms and held her close while she cried.
"I'm sorry baby," she sobbed.
"For what?" he asked, confused.
"I distracted you."
"Mads, it's fine babe. I know you were worried about me. We are all right. Nothing happened to either one of us. We are all safe. We will get the window fixed tomorrow and beef up our security."
She nodded. He kissed her forehead and held her close.
"Come check on the kids with me. You'll feel better," he said.
She nodded. They walked down the hall to the boys room. Maverick was curled up in a ball and Malakai was completely spread out on his bed. He was almost falling off of it, head first. She chuckled a bit and picked her son back up on his bed. They went to the nursery next. Matthew had his little fists balled up above his head. Myles was sucking his thumb and Mckynna had buried herself under her blanket. Madelyn fixed Mckynna's blanket and they left the room. He walked her back down to their room, hoping that now she would sleep. He had two security guards inside the house now as well as few outside. He pulled Madelyn into his arms and held her close.
She finally fell asleep after a few hours. Marshall was awake with her the entire time. He only fell asleep after she did. She remained wrapped up in his arms. He slept soundly as long as he could feel her. She woke up to the babies fussing. He was up in a matter of minutes after she had slid from their bed.
"Where are you going?" he asked.
"Myles and Matthew are awake," she said.
"All right."
"Are you getting up to help?"
He yawned and nodded. He felt uneasy letting her leave the room alone. He knew the guy was in jail but it still left him nervous about everything. He worried about his family being alone in the house if he had to leave for anything. He followed her down the hall to help get the babies up from their cribs. They made bottles and fed them all before the other two boys got up. She went into the kitchen to make breakfast. The broken window made her nervous even though it was getting fixed today. She glanced at it and then back at Sam, who was in the kitchen as well. She felt better knowing that he was there but was still nervous about it. She wasn't sure if she would ever be comfortable in her own home again. It bothered her but she was glad that her kids knew nothing about what had happened. They had slept through it. The alarm had not been placed in their rooms so they had been able to stay asleep. Marshall had never wanted them to be scared if anything happened. Madelyn made pancakes for breakfast. The two older boys came down the stairs.
"Mommy," Maverick said.
"What buddy?" she asked.
"Who broke that window?"
Madelyn looked over at the window and then looked at her husband who had just come into the room. Marshall sighed. He hadn't planned on telling the boys about what had happened the night before but now it looked like he was going to have to.
"Someone broke it last night," he said.
"Why?" Maverick asked.
"Sometimes people do bad things."
Maverick nodded. That was all it took to satisfy the little boy. It was later that morning that someone arrived to fix the window. Marshall looked at his wife. He could see the struggle that she was having with being in the house after what had happened.
"Mads, you ok?" he asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine." she said.
"Madelyn."
"I'm fine babe. I promise."
He nodded. She smiled at him. He pulled her to him and hugged her tightly. She kissed him.
