Marshall woke up in his wife's hospital room. He knew he wasn't going to be able to stay at the hospital the whole time with her but the thought of sleeping alone in their bed without her was not something he wanted. She was still asleep. The door opened quietly to the room. He looked over at it. Alaina stuck her head in. He smiled when he saw his oldest daughter.

"Come on in," he said.
"Mads still sleeping?" Alaina asked quietly.
"No," Madelyn answered, surprising him.

Alaina opened the door to reveal Whitney and the boys. Marshall smiled as he looked at his children. Whitney was carrying Malakai. Madelyn smiled and struggled a bit to sit up. Marshall got up and helped her. Alaina held food bags in her hand.

"Happy birthday dad," the two girls smiled.
"Thank you babies," he smiled.
"Mama," Malakai reached for her.
"You have to be easy on mommy," Marshall told their boys.
"Mama, are you sick?" Maverick asked.
"Mama had the babies," Madelyn told her four year old.
"Where are they?"
"They are with the doctors because they are still really small."

Maverick nodded. Alaina sighed.

"Where's Hailie?" Whitney asked.
"She has been with the babies since they arrived yesterday," Marshall said.
"Oh."
"Hopefully Mads can go down there to see them later today."

Marshall looked at his wife. Malakai was now on the bed with her, snuggled into her side. She kissed the top of his head. A nurse had brought in pictures of each baby labeled with their birth letter and information. Madelyn showed her little boys. They hadn't asked about them being able to go down to the NICU to see the babies. The girls could go but with Maverick only being four and Malakai only being two, they weren't sure. He would have to ask.

"Good morning Mathers family," the doctor came into the room.
"Morning," Madelyn replied.
"We got everyone this morning huh?"
"It is my husband's birthday today."
"Well that is a good reason to be able to go down to see your new babies."
"What about the boys? Are they able to go?"
"Of course, we encourage all of the family to see the babies. You will just need to help them wash their hands really well."

Madelyn nodded. A nurse brought a wheelchair into the room. Marshall helped his wife out of bed and into the chair. She had on a nightgown now. She had been pumping breast milk for them to feed to her infants. She wanted them to get the healthiest thing for them.

They all went down together to see the babies. Marshall and Alaina helped Maverick and Malakai wash their hands. They walked into the room to find Hailie sitting in a chair next to one of the incubators.

"Matthew," she said.

Marshall nodded. They went to Myles first. He looked so tiny in the incubator in just a diaper. Mckynna was next and compared to Myles she was huge. She was breathing on her own still. The doctor for the babies walked in the room before they got to Matthew.

"We are going to start all three on the blue bilirubin lights. They have developed a bit of jaundice overnight so we will monitor their levels." she said.

Madelyn nodded as Marshall moved her over to their youngest child. She was already emotional over seeing the other two but Matthew broke her. She began to cry. Marshall knelt next to her and slipped his hand in hers. She glanced at him, the tears rolling down her face.

"He is so little," she whispered.
"He is a fighter," Hailie said.

Madelyn looked at her and gave a slight head nod. Hailie smiled. She hugged her dad and told him Happy birthday. It was an emotional day for them actually seeing the babies. They would be in the NICU for a while and Madelyn would be released after a week. It was going to be rough taking her home without any babies. He sighed.

"Mads," he said.
"I am ok for now," she replied.

The doctor walked over and opened a little round window on the incubator.

"You can touch him," she said.

Madelyn reached her hand in and gently stroked Matthew's head with one finger. Marshall watched her as she did it.

"He is just so tiny," she kept saying over and over.
"They all are compared to our chunky monkey boys." Marshall replied.

Madelyn looked up at him. He had concern and fear written on his face. It was too much for her. She let the nurse close the window and they headed back to the room. The pain in Madelyn's abdomen was getting worse. She was trying to avoid the pain meds for the sake of her husband. She didn't want to go home on them. He insisted that she do whatever she needed and he was fine.
