Marshall sat there for what felt like forever. Madelyn was still out from the anesthetic. He felt his anxiety rise with every hour. Nurses were in and out of the room every fifteen minutes. He had gotten updates on the triplets. He just hadn't gone to see them. Hailie had been down to see them. He sighed with his head in his hands.

"Marshall," Madelyn's groggy voice met his ears.

His head shot up as he met her eyes. He smiled slightly.

"Hey beautiful, you gave me one hell of a scare back there," he said.
"Yeah?" she asked.
"Yeah baby I can't lose you. I love you too much."
"I love you too. I need to let them know you are awake."
"Just a minute, please?"
"What baby?"
"I saw them."
"Who?"
"Everyone we have lost. They were waiting on me at the end of this really long tunnel. Marshall, it was so warm and full of love."
"Mads."
"Proof and Ronnie told me I couldn't leave you. Not yet. We aren't old and gray yet."

Marshall chuckled a bit as tears sprang to his eyes.

"Baby, they love you so much. They are always watching over us. Every day, they are there when we do things. Proof said you are a terrible television show but he wouldn't miss an episode," she said softly.

Marshall leaned over to kiss her. She ran her hand across the back of his head. He pulled away and hit the nurses call button. She sighed heavily as the pain began to hit her.

"How are our babies?" she asked.
"I haven't been down to see them," he admitted.
"Why not?"

She had a frown on her face. He shook his head.

"I didn't want to go without you," he said.
"Babe," she began.

The door opened and a nurse walked in effectively cutting off their conversation. The nurse checked her out and informed them that the doctor would be in soon.

"When can I go see my babies?" she asked.
"That is a question he can answer," the nurse replied.

Madelyn nodded. Marshall had her hand in his. He was stroking the back of her hand with his thumb. It was relaxing. She glanced over at him. He had a worried look on his face.

"Marshall, they needed you," she said after the nurse left.
"You needed me. Hailie showed up. She is with the babies," he argued.
"Handsome, Hailie is their sister. They need their father."
"Babe, they have their father but I was no good worried about you. That was probably scarier than my overdose for me."

Madelyn sighed. The doctor came into the room. He checked her over. She was in pain. He ordered a round of pain medicine for her.

"When can I go see my babies?" she asked.
"Let's see how you are doing tomorrow, but the NICU team will be down shortly to update you on how they are doing right now," he said.

Madelyn nodded. He looked at her husband.

"How are you holding up Mr. Mathers?" he asked.

Marshall nodded. He looked at her as the doctor walked out. She sighed. A weird look crossed her face.

"What?" he asked.
"Tomorrow is your birthday," she said.
"I know."
"Baby, I am so sorry."
"For what Mads?"
"We won't be home for your birthday dinner."
"Madelyn, I don't care about that. Our babies are here and we are together. I got the best birthday gift ever this year, three babies and a healthy wife."
"I don't know about healthy."
"Hey gorgeous, you are still here. That is all I care about."

A nurse walked in the room. She smiled at them.

"We are ready to move you to our postpartum room now," she smiled.
"Wait they said the NICU doctor would be in," Madelyn said.
"They will meet you in your private room to update you on the babies. They will be moving them into a private NICU room as well."

They moved her to the new room. They waited on their babies doctor to come into the room. Marshall was texting with Hailie. She told him they were moving the babies to a room right then.

A doctor walked into the room. She smiled when she saw them.

"All right, I am sure you are all ready to hear about some beautiful babies," she said.
"Yes," Marshall replied.
"All right baby A is a boy. He weighed in at 3 pounds 4 ounces and is 17 inches long. He is on a CPap right now to keep his lungs open. He did respond well to the steroids they were given so it is set really low. Baby B, is your girl. She is your heavy weight. She is 3 pounds 8 ounces and 17 inches long. She is breathing on her own completely but in an incubator to help her maintain her body heat. Baby C is your little guy that was in distress. He is the smallest as well. He is 2 pounds 14 ounces and 15 inches long. He has been placed on a breathing tube. He is struggling but hanging in there. As of now all three are in incubators because of how tiny they are." she said.

Madelyn had begun to cry. Marshall held tight to her hand. He knew she felt guilty.

"Mrs. Mathers, we expected all of this with their gestational age. It is nothing you did. They are all fighters. They look a lot better than some singletons I have had that were born at 32 weeks. It takes a lot out of your body to carry three at once and they are doing well. We have not had any alarms going off. Your daughter can attest to that. She has not left their side since she entered the room." the doctor smiled.
"Can someone bring me pictures of them please?" Madelyn asked softly.
"Of course. Do you have names picked out yet?"
"Yes, baby A is Myles Bennett, our girl is Mckynna Braelynn and Baby C is Matthew Benjamin Deshaun." Marshall said.

Madelyn nodded in agreement at the addition to their smallest boy's name.
