Chapter Twenty

"Good morning there in Seoul, this is Dr. Jason Moore from the California State Hospital. Are you Park Chanyeol?"

"Ah yes." Chanyeol responded in english.

"According to ms. Song Ma Rin, her immediate contact is you. Are you the son of Song Ma Rin?"

"Yes," Chanyeol felt hesitant to speak. "Yes, I am."

"I called and I regret to inform you that our patient, ms. Song Ma Rin, is not in a good condition. Her history of Leukemia is starting to show up again.." Chanyeol's heart stopped beating upon hearing that word.

Leukemia

He grabbed his chest, knowing that his mom is fighting another battle she had won years ago.

"She is currently admitted here in our hospital at California. Is there any chance that you could be here with her to sign papers about her procedures and surgeries?"

Chanyeol couldn't speak. He couldn't breathe knowing that he might lose their mom. The person he trusted the most in his family. The one who gave him the love his father lacked.

"Chanyeol.." Baekhyun's soft voice calling his name is enough to snap him out of his thoughts.

"Ah.. ye-yes. I'll be there." Chanyeol stuttered.

"Great. I will be expecting your arrival this week. You'll be briefed with the details about ms. Song Ma Rin's case and her room assignment once you are here. Have a safe flight."

The phone call ended, and so did Chanyeol's heart beat. He couldn't move after Dr. Moore dropped the phone call. Hearing that his mom could die any moment is still hard to fathom. His vision has blurred and all he could think about is his mom. Her calling his name for the last time. Chanyeol.

"Chanyeol." His presence was brought back when Jisoo snapped infront of him.

"W-what?"

"I'm coming with you." Jisoo said.

"The semester's not yet over."

"And she's not just your mom. She's mine too. I'm going." Jisoo added.

"What about dad?"

"I'll stay with him." Baekhyun said. "I don't have the luxury to travel anyway."

"No. You should come with us. You should be with-"

"No, Chanyeol." Baekhyun interupted. "She's your mom, and she needs you and Jisoo. She should be your priority when you arrive there."

"But Baekhyun.."

"I'll be okay." Baekhyun gave him a reassuring smile. Warm enough to lighten the pain Chanyeol is feeling.

"I.. I don't want you to go to school alone."

"I will be fine."

"But.."

Baekhyun held Chanyeol's hand, and the look in Chanyeol's eyes show that he's not willing to leave Baekhyun alone.

"Will you really be okay?" Chanyeol asked.

Baekhyun nodded and placed Chanyeol's hand in his cheek.

"I will be." The smile Baekhyun gave pained Chanyeol inside that he never wanted to leave him behind.

Baekhyun went back to his room trying to calm himself down. He's still scared to go to school but he needed to be strong. Those last words that he uttered felt more like it is directed to himself more than to Chanyeol.
