Isabelle's POV
She didn't even know what to think anymore. It was hard to believe that Alec was really gone. He didn't deserve what had happened. He didn't deserve any of this.
Isabelle was sitting on her bed, with a picture in her hand. In the picture, she stood next to Alec. Both of them were smiling. He had his arm wrapped around her, and they stood on the roof of a building, so the whole city stretched out behind them, along with the Brooklyn Bridge. The sun was setting, making the sky a light pink with small orange smudges running along it, kind of like a painting. She remembered that day so clearly, it could have been yesterday. But it was taken around two years ago. On Isabelle's birthday. Jace had dragged them out on a hunt, and then the boys surprised her with dinner on the rooftop. She smiled at the memory.
Alec had always been there for her. He was there for her when she needed him. He was there at the trial.
"A brother and sister who disagree on everything, except how much they love one another." Lydia's voice rang in her mind.
He was there when she had been possessed, and stabbed in the back with a knife.
"Izzy!" He had wrapped his strong arms around her and held her there until Jace showed up. Then he had carried her to the infirmary.
She squeezed her eyes shut.
Two days. That's how long he's been dead. Two days, and Isabelle still couldn't believe it. She kept expecting him to walk through the doors of the Institute with Magnus. But he never did. She hadn't heard from Magnus since the funeral either.
He really had loved him. Isabelle put the picture down, standing up. She pulled a coat on and walked down the hallway to the door. She didn't stop walking until she stood at Magnus's apartment. She knocked. At first no one answered. Then she knocked again.
"Magnus! It's Isabelle! I know you're in there."
She heard footsteps on the other side of the door. When it opened, she jumped in surprise. "You're not Magnus." She said to the blue-eyed boy that stood in front of her.
"No, I'm not. My name is Eros. Magnus is not home."
"What are you doing in his apartment?"
"Uh... I'm just here to water the plants."
"Magnus has plants?"
"Yeah, he does."
"Well, if you don't mind, I'd like to come in."
"I-I don't think Magnus would like that very much," Eros said, closing the door. Isabelle put her foot in the crack.
"Trust me, he'd be fine with it." She said, pushing the door open and stepping inside. She looked around. The apartment seemed normal.
"Where is Magnus?"
"Uh... He um..." Eros mumbled. "He's in Hawaii."
"Hawaii?"
"Yup. Something about a clearing his mind and some shadowhunter..."
"Alec."
"Yes, yes. That was his name. Alec."
"Are you a warlock too?" Isabelle asked. She knew something was up. This guy wasn't normal. She felt weird standing next to him, and her runes were all tingling.
"No, I'm not a warlock."
"Then what are you?"
"Wouldn't you like to know," Eros replied, sticking his tongue out at her.
