Alec's POV
"We still don't know what Jonathan is planning," Jace said, following Alec as he walked through the Op center in a hurry.
"And that's what I'm planning to find out," Alec replied, stopping in front of one of the monitors. He typed something on the keyboard. "Dang it, there's no results."
"From what?"
Alec ignored his parabatai.
"Alec, when the last time you ate something?" Isabelle said, walking up to him.
Alec turned to face her. "I'm busy," He grumbled, walking past her to another monitor.
"Alec." Isabelle grabbed his arm. "I know you want to find Magnus and stop Jonathan, but have you seen yourself lately?"
"You should take a break, Alec," Jace added.
"I'm not tired." He wasn't lying. He wasn't tired. He hadn't slept since Magnus left with Jonathan three days ago. Neither of them have made an appearance since that day.
"Alec, you..." Alec didn't hear the rest of his sister's sentence. The second he read what had popped up on the monitor, he grabbed his bow and quiver, running out of the Institute.
He knew his siblings would follow him. They were annoying like that. But he didn't wait to see if he was right. He just kept running.
According to Imogen, two chemicals had been stolen a few days ago. Písti and skoteiní. They were both extremely rare, and could only be created with a mix of demon blood and lots of very powerful magic. The písti potion had some properties of angelic power. Together, they could make any creature who is injected with it completely lose their mind, 100 percent loyal to the person who injected them. And if he was right, Magnus was in a lot of trouble.
Jace's POV
When Alec ran out of the Institute, Jace and Izzy grabbed some seraph blades and followed him, being careful so he wouldn't see them. Alec was mumbling to himself, but Jace couldn't quite make out what he was saying.
He tried to concentrate on the parabatai bond he shared with the other shadowhunter. He felt a mix of fear, worry, and determination. Whatever was going on, he had to try to calm Alec down.
Jace and Izzy eventually gave up keeping their distance and ran over to him.
"Alec, what's wrong?"
The hazel-eyes boy didn't answer. He just continued running.
"Okay," Isabelle said only loud enough for Jace to hear. "We gotta stop him. He's going to hurt himself." Just as she finished her sentence, Alec released an arrow. Jace turned his head in time to see a demon disintegrating. Alec let go of another arrow, killing the other demon that was with it, all the while he didn't stop running.
Jace caught Isabelle's eye for a second. Alec had barely paid attention to the demons. When Alec finally stopped running, Jace and Izzy were out of breath. But Alec seemed fine. Jace looked around. They were at the warehouse. He shivered at the memories that flooded his mind. Why would Alec want to come back here? To the place he was tortured? Alec pulled an arrow from his quiver.
Isabelle's bracelet extended to a whip, and Jace drew his seraph blades. Alec opened the door to a dark hallway, quietly making his way in.
"Alec," Jace whispered. "What are you doing?"
"Trying to find Magnus."
Jace's eyes widened. "You're what? Alec, you idiot! Were you planning on coming alone?"
