Jace's POV

Since Isabelle was the new Head of the Institute, they really had to find her. And fast, too. Jace didn't know what he would do if something happened to her. After Alec died, poor Max had shut down completely. He couldn't afford to lose anyone else.

He and Clary had left the Institute hours ago, and they still couldn't find her. Shadowhunter tracking wasn't working, they had tried to send countless fire messages but they had all just burned to ashes instead of flying away. Luke couldn't pick anything up and neither could the rest of the werewolves.

And now, they stood in front of Magnus's door. Someone shouted from inside. Clary knocked, looking at him worriedly. No one answered the door.

"Go away, Shadowhunters." Someone said from the other side.

"Magnus, it's Isabelle," Clary yelled back. "She's missing. We need your help."

"Go ask a different warlock." It didn't sound like Magnus's voice. "Caterina can help you."

There was another shout from inside. "Magnus, open the door!" Jace said.

"Or we're going to open it ourselves," Clary pulled out her stele.

Jace hated the idea of walking in when Magnus had made it clear he did not want them there. But they had to find Isabelle.

Clary drew a rune on the door and it swung open. The lights in the apartment were off, and it was unusually quiet.

"Magnus?" Clary asked.

Jace put his hand on the seraph blade hanging from his belt.

He heard another scream coming from the guest room. He walked towards it slowly. Clary followed him. He put his hand on the handle and began to turn it, but was knocked to the floor.

"Jace!" Clary shouted. Then she was knocked down too. The next thing he knew, roped were tied around his hands and legs.

Magnus's POV

Magnus and Isabelle stood in front of Alexander. It was weird. His eyes were closed, but his skin was still full of color, and his chest was rising up and down. He was in a standing position, but his feet did not touch the floor. His hair was blowing around, even though there was no wind in the room. Magnus reached out and touched his hand. It was warm.

"Alexander." He said, smiling. It seemed too good to be true. And like most things, it was. Dozens of winged creatures with blue skin and golden eyes emerged from the shadows. All around them, the other people disappeared, leaving just Isabelle, Magnus, Alec, and a bunch of blue things in white dresses.

They smiled to reveal a row of razor-sharp teeth. Magnus's wings had disappeared after the first battle. Clearly, they were at a disadvantage. Magnus gripped the sword in his hand, ready for the worst. Isabelle had hers ready as well.

Alexander was right behind him. He was so close, yet so far at the same time. The blue things ran toward them.

"Hold your ground," Izzy muttered. Magnus nodded. They were getting closer and closer to them. "Hold your ground," Izzy said again. "Go!"

Magnus ran forward, swinging his blade in front of him. Maybe this would be easier than it looked. They turned into flowers when the blade cut them. Magnus had already killed four and they had only been fighting for a few seconds. The only problem was that there were a lot of them. Isabelle wasn't as good with a sword as she was with a whip, but she was still incredible.

"I fell in love with you because you're wise, and you're generous and you're brave and you're incredible!" Alec's voice echoed through his mind. "When you walk into a room there's a spark in you, magic or not, that lights up everyone and everything around you. I won't lose you. I can't."

He sliced away at any creature he could. He tunred and felt a sharp pain in his arm. He dropped the sword. One of them had bitten him. Black lines spread around the wound the second the thing let go of him. They were going up his arm.

"Isabelle!" He yelled to her. "Don't let them bite you! It's poison!" Black spots danced in front of his eyes. He blinked them away, picking up the sword. He could feel the poison spreading. It hurt like hell, but he didn't care. He just wanted to be able to hold Alec in his arms once more. To see those beautiful hazel eyes again.

He jabbed at one of the blue people, and had a funny thought as it turned into flowers. About a few weeks ago, Alec and Magnus had had to babysit Max. And he had insisted on watching a movie called The Smurfs. Come to think of it, if the creatures he was fighting hadn't been so terrifying, they would have looked like the smurfs from the movie. He shook his head. He couldn't be thinking about that right now.

"Did you get bitten?" Isabelle yelled back.

"Yeah, but I can manage for now."

The battle was all a bit of a blur. He stabbed over and over, until the floor was covered in flowers and he and Isabelle stood in the middle of the room, tired and out of breath.

Magnus took a step toward Alec, and immediately his head filled with pain. He fell to the ground with a shout. His vision was getting blurry.

Isabelle's POV

"Magnus?" She kneeled down next to the warlock. His right arm had black lines all over it, and they were spreading quickly. It looked liked vines growing from the bite mark on his forearm. It wasn't bleeding, but a black liquid was flowing from it. "Come on, lets get you and Alec home."

She already knew what she had to do to get out of there. She grabbed Alec's hand, and Magnus's. She closed her eyes and called out to Eros. And the next thing she knew, the world was flipped upside down, and she was plummeting to who knows where. She was getting dizzier and dizzier, until everything went black.
