"Hold your ground."
Everyone was waiting as the demons ran at them, full speed. No one moved. They stayed where they were, clutching their weapons.
Alec had his bow raised, Isabelle's whip was in her hand, Jace had his seraph blade, Magnus had his magic, and the whole entire NY wolfpack stood behind them in wolf form.
"Hold your ground," Alec said again. "Wait..."
He could tell everyone was getting anxious. The demons were close now. Fifty feet. Forty feet. Thirty.
"Charge!" Alec yelled, letting go of his arrow as the wolves and other Shadowhunters ran forward. Alec ran with them, in the front lines, shooting arrow after arrow into the crowd of demons.
He probably wouldn't run out any time soon. He had hundreds of arrows. One of the inventors in Alicante had created something called the Infinite Quiver. It never ran out of arrows. Of course, this took a great deal of magic, which meant there were not many of them. Alec himself wasn't exactly sure how it worked, but it did and that was what mattered.
Jace was keeping a close eye on his parabatai all the while making sure he didn't get himself killed. Clary wasn't here. Sometimes it felt like Clary was never here. But that made everything easier. She wasn't in danger if she was at the Institute. Hopefully...
Jace watched as the demon disintegrated into fiery dust, which was carried away by the steady breeze.
He didn't know where they were, exactly. But it was beautiful here. Mountains rose up behind rough snow-covered grown he stood on, snowflakes falling from the sky almost in slow-motion. The snow wasn't very deep, but the ground was very uneven. The snow-covered the rocks and other things that they all kept tripping over.
Alec was shooting three arrows at once now, killing a demon every time. Isabelle stood far across the snow-coated landscape, her whip flying around like crazy.
All around them, demons were disintegrating. All different types. Hydras, Raums, Shax, any type you could think of, they were there.
A demon ran at Alec, tackling him to the ground. He let go of the arrow he was holding, causing it to shoot randomly. Alec was flat on his back, trying to grab the seraph blade from his belt as the demon clawed at his face, sinking its teeth into him. Alec felt a sharp pain where his parabatai rune was. He grabbed the seraph blade, stabbed it through the heart of the demons, stood up, and ran to Jace, who lay in the snow.
"Jace." His rune was burning like crazy, but he couldn't let it prevent him from helping the blond. "Jace, come on, stay with me." He ripped off a piece of his shirt under his gear, and pressed it to the bleeding wound on Jac'e abdomen. "Stay with me."
"Alec..."
"Shh." He hushed him. "Don't talk."
"I..."
"Don't die either." Alec interrupted him again, tracing over the iratze rune over and over and over.
It took him a minute to realize that Jace was no longer in front of him, and he was no longer in the snow.
Jace's mind was foggy, just like Alec's. Neither of them could decipher left from right, up from down.
They were just running endlessly. No destination, nowhere to go. Even their memories were fading as the floor beneath them gave way. They kept running, trying to get ahead of the expanding hole, with no luck.
It was only a matter of seconds until it would swallow them whole. But then it was gone. This time there was nothing but darkness. Alec stood next to Jace, reaching back to grab an arrow. Jace raised his seraph blade, unsure of what was to come.
They couldn't remember where they were, why they were here, or how to get away from it all.
But as they stood there longer and longer, the memories began coming back to them. The island, Magnus and Madzie, the bright light. Then there was nothing at all.
Magnus's POV
Alec and Jace both sat upright at exactly the same time, both of them breathing heavily.
"Magnus." Alec breathed before getting into a coughing fit.
Magnus started rubbing his back. "It's okay, Alec."
Clary was by Jace's side, comforting him. The parabatai looked like they had just woken up from a very intense nightmare.
Then Isabelle burst through the door.
"Another dead shadowhunter was... Jace! Alec!" She exclaimed.
"A dead shadowhunter?" Alec asked, swinging his legs over the side of the bed.
"Alexander," Magnus tried to push him back onto the bed, but he refused, standing up. He seemed to be fine. His hair was combed, he was dressed in sweat pants and a dark red t-shirt. "Lay back down."
"No." He said sternly. Magnus was surprised. He had never used that tone on him before. "What dead Shadowhunter, Isabelle?"
The female Shadowhunter took a deep breath, looking back and forth between her two brothers, adopted and blood, thinking about how she should say this. In the end, she just blurted everything out that had happened in the three days they had been unconscious. She explained about the war, the Seelies, how dead shadowhunters kept turning up with words like, 'Surrender' or 'Who's next?' cut into their chest or stomach. She told them about how the vampires and warlocks had turned against them, how they had taken over the Hunter's Moon, and killed anyone who wasn't on there side on sight. No hesitation. She told them of the training camps in the Seelie Realm, how they were training the warlocks and vamps to be hardcore soldiers, about how completely outnumbered the Shadowhunters and Werewolves were, and about every little battle they had fought in so far, and a bunch of other stuff.
Magnus found himself wondering if that girl ever breathed. She was talking so fast he could barely keep up with what she was saying.
Everyone was silent for a while. Jace and Alec seemed to be processing the new information.
"Wow," Jace mumbled. They waited for him to continue but he never did. Alec didn't say anything at all. He seemed to be deep in thought, his hands behind his back. He was looking out the window.
After everyone else left, Magnus walked up to Alec.
"Penny for your thoughts?"
"Sorry Magnus," He said. "but I have an army to command. This is war. We have to be ready."
Magnus looked at him in shock. That was not what he expected. Despite all of his arguments, Alec left him alone in the infirmary.
Bam. Chapter. Horrible chapter, but still a chapter. Okay, well, my brother has his belt graduation in Karate today so I gotta go. (I think he's getting a purple belt? Maybe?) Okay, love y'all, bye. Also, thank you for 1K comments. That is a LOT of comments. As well as 1.8K views, and over 200 votes. I feel popular. 😂😂
