Jace's POV

"Ah," His wrist was hurting again. Good thing he was left-handed. "God, Alec, what are you doing?" He mumbled, still slicing at the demons, which were actually really easy to kill.

A terrible thought crossed his mind. He hadn't been able to talk to Alec for a few days. What if Jonathan had him? What if the Seelie Queen had found him on her island?

"Jace!" Someone yelled, and he instantly recognized the voice as Clary's. Then she was by his side, her blades, the smaller one Heosphoros, and the larger of the two, Phaesphoros, already stabbing at whatever they could. The demons were gone in seconds.

"You're not thinking about meeting with Jonathan, are you?"

"What? What the hell made you think that? Of course not! I'm not that stupid, Clary."

She looked at him in an odd way. "Well..."

"That was once!" Jace replied. "My only priority right now is finding Alec and Magnus, and getting them back well and alive."

"Isabelle's working on that,"

"What do you mean?"

"She didn't tell you?" Jace shook his head. "She went to some Shadowhunter's house in Spain. Named Slinky?"

"Slinky is not a Shadowhunter name."

"Uh... I know it started with an 'S'..."

"That's not important. Why is she there?"

"Slinky is the only living person who didn't go insane after getting off of that island. Isabelle's hoping she can help us find them."

"Oh," Jace said. "That might actually be helpful. And her name is not Slinky. Shadowhunters are not named that. But you're telling me she went alone?"

Clary nodded.

"To a different country?"

She nodded again.

"When we are on the brink of war? Our worst enemy on the loose, with an army of demons?"

"Uh..."

"Alone? What was she thinking?"

"She was thinking she could have a chance at saving her brother's life. And Magnus's too."

Jace looked at her. He didn't know what to say. But she was right. Jace and Alec were parabatai. And Jace had failed. Entreat me not to leave thee, but to return from following after thee. He failed at that. Alec had been missing for several days now. For wither thou goest, I will go. He went through the whole oath in his mind, thinking about each thing he had failed to do. Yes, he would die for Alec. And Alec would die for him. But when the time came, when Alec did die, he didn't save him. And he had been right there. But what had he done? Nothing. He had watched, as Alec lay in Magnus's arms, as he died, as Isabelle and Magnus begged him not to leave them, as he told his one true love to move on, to be happy.

Jace had done nothing. All of this was his fault. The realization finally dawned on him. Alec was his Parabatai. He would die for him, so why wasn't he? Why hadn't he found him? He would have to try much, much harder. He would do anything. And he will do everything he can to save him. There was no changing his mind.

Imogen's POV

"You actually came," Jonathan spoke softly, obviously surprised by her presence. "I didn't think you would."

"Why wouldn't I? You threatened to destroy one of our greatest Institutes. I didn't have a choice."

"But it's more than that,"
