Magnus's POV
They had been walking for hours. They didn't exactly know where they were going, but the first priority was getting out of this cold.
And to make matters worse, it was snowing.
Alec was carrying Madzie, the stele tucked in the back pocket of his black jeans. His t-shirt had once been dark green, but it was faded now due to all the sun it had been getting. His hair was a mess, filled with snow. Although his lips were blue, he didn't seem to mind the cold too much.
Magnus was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, but he had given his jacket to Madzie. The snow reached a few inches past their ankles. Alec was wearing combat boots that went above the snow, protecting his feet from the cold.
In a flash, the snow turned to grass under their feet, the snow turning to rain. Magnus looked around. They must have entered the grassland section of the island. He turned around, expecting to see the snow they had just come from, but instead, all he saw was grass and rocks.
Alec set Madzie down on a rock the size of a pool float.
"So, do we have a plan?" Magnus asked, hoping Alec had some sort of an idea of what to do now.
Alec didn't look at him while he spoke, his eyes scanning the sky, watching the darkened clouds move quicker as the wind began to pick up. "I don't know. But let's face it, Magnus. We're never getting off of this island."
Magnus looked up at him. That did not sound like something his Alexander would say. "Don't say that, Alec."
"Why not? We both know it's true."
The island must have been getting into his mind. "No, we're not going to give up. We will get off this island. I promise." Alec turned to him.
"Don't make promises you can't keep," Alec mumbled, so quietly that Magnus could almost believe it was just the sound of the wind if he hadn't seen Alec's lips move as he said the words.
The rain was pounding down now, soaking them to the bones. Magnus picked up Madzie in one arm, grabbing Alec's hand with his free one. He just needed to know he was there. He started walking. There were some trees up ahead, although they barely had any leaves.
Magnus's stomach began to rumble. They hadn't really eaten much since they had gotten here. Ellis had given them berries and fish, but now he was gone.
Magnus pulled Alec along behind him, who didn't say anything the whole time, just followed him.
He stopped at the trees, setting Madzie down again. He started breaking off branches, trying to build some kind of shelter, at least for Madzie. He didn't want her to catch a cold. He had done this before, after forgetting to bring a tent to camp on a twenty-four-hour 'survive in the wild without magic' challenge Cat had forced him to do. He never thought that would ever come in handy. But here they were.
Magnus finished his makeshift tent, stepping back to admire his work. It looked decent enough, and at least it provided shelter from the rain. It wasn't very big either. After putting Madzie inside, who had fallen asleep somehow, he turned to Alec. He was still just standing there, looking at the sky.
"Alec?" He waved his hands in front of his face. Alec blinked.
"Sorry, were you saying something, Magnus?"
"Are you okay?" Magnus asked worriedly.
"I'm fine, I promise. I was just talking to Jace."
"For an hour?"
"We only exchanged a few words... it couldn't have been an hour."
"Well, what did you talk about?" Magnus inquired, trying to get some answers.
"He said he couldn't find any way to get us off. He agrees with me. We're a lost cause."
Definitely the island messing with him. "Alec, it's just another trick. It wasn't really Jace, okay?"
Alec didn't answer. Magnus sighed.
Then there was a flash of light, and Alec's bow appeared in his hand, his quiver on his back, filled with arrows. There was a piece of paper stuck to it, and Magnus pulled it off.
'Didn't want my guess to starve to death. Good hunting, Jonathan.'
Magnus showed the paper to Alec, who smiled, suddenly snapped out of whatever he had been thinking before. He pulled an arrow from the quiver, clicking it into place on the string, pulling it back, tilting the bow slightly to the left to keep the arrow from falling off before he was ready to shoot. He held the arrow between his fingers, pulling the string all the way back to his face, his left arm bent ever so slightly to keep the string from hitting it when he released. He was aiming at nothing, or at least that's what Magnus thought. He let go of the arrow, the string snapping back to its place as the arrow soared through the air.
It took him a second to see that Alec was in fact aiming for something. It was quite far away, at least a few hundred meters, and he couldn't tell what it was. Whatever it was fell to the ground when Alec's arrow hit it.
"I'll be right back," He said. "Stay here with Madzie."
Before Magnus could protest, Alec was running towards the thing he had hit, his bow in hand, arrows bouncing around in the quiver.
He bent down, grabbed something, and started dragging it back. When he got closer, Magnus saw that it was deer, an arrow right through its eyes. Damn, Alec was good.
He then pulled out his stele. The rain had slowed to a light sprinkle, which Magnus was thankful for. Alec took a few pieces of wood from underneath some dirt. Hopefully, it was dry enough. He drew the heat rune on it, and sure enough, the wood let on fire.
"Let's cook this thing. I'm starving."
Jonathan's POV
"He's good." The Seelie Queen said, staring at the monitor in front of them.
"I told you. That kid could shoot anything. It's best if we kept him on the island. The warlock's as well. Both are pretty powerful."
"Even the little one?"
"Even the little one," Jonathan confirmed.
The Queen smiled. She was in her older form, which Jonathan was thankful for. It was weird discussing his plans with a child.
"But if we do let them off of the island..."
"We can't risk it. They're too strong when they are together."
"Okay then," She mumbled. "Time for plan B."
Hey. Sorry for the boring chapter. My mind is kind of elsewhere right now. So anyway, thanks for reading, love y'all, bye.
