Jace's POV

Clary had gotten out of the infirmary already. She was fine. So Jace left her alone to get some rest.

And he needed a shower. He took off his shirt, trying to keep his eyes from the spot where the parabatai rune had once been. He could almost feel Alec's pain. He could feel sadness, anger, and distress. But maybe he was just so used to feeling what Alec felt, that he was imagining things. But when he opened his eyes again, he couldn't believe what he saw. The parabatai rune. It was still there. He didn't bother to put his shirt back on. He ran out of his room and into Alec's old office where Isabelle sat at the desk.

"Jace! What are you doing? Put a shirt on!" She said.

Jace ignored his sister and walked up to the desk, pointing at the rune. "Isabelle, look." She looked up and sighed when she saw what Jace was pointing at. "Izzy, he's alive."

"You can't tell anyone, Jace."

"Wait, you already knew about this?" Jace demanded. "How long has he been back?"

"Just a few days,"

Jace's stomach clenched. How had he not noticed? "Where is he?"

"Jace, it's..."

"Where is he?"

Isabelle sighed once more. She seemed to be calm. Her hair was pulled back in a tight ponytail, and she wore a black long-sleeved shirt with jeans. "Magnus's loft, but I don't think..."

Jace didn't hear the rest of her sentence. He was already bolting out of the Institute.

Magnus's POV

"What are you waiting for?" Jonathan demanded.

Magnus sighed. He didn't want to help Jonathan. But he didn't want to think about what would happen to Alec if he didn't. He waved his hands in front of him, creating a portal.

A smile spread across Jonathan's face. Not the type of smile when one was happy, but more like when one was hatching an evil plan to watch the world burn and it was going exactly as planned. He stepped into the portal, and Magnus followed. They stepped out seconds later in the warehouse they had fought the circle members in.

The one where Alec was tortured. Magnus reminded himself bitterly

"Good," Jonathan said. "You don't talk much." He turned to Magnus. "Strange."

Magnus didn't say anything. He didn't know how to reply. It wasn't easy, turning away from Alexander as he screamed his name. He had betrayed him. Even if it was for a good reason, he had left Alec alone.

What if something happened to him while he was alone? No one would be there to help him. Magnus silently cursed himself. How could he have been so stupid? Even if his magic was weak, he could have done something. But instead, he had blindly made the decision to go with Jonathan. He knew if he ever got out of this alive, the Clave would have a problem with it. Even if he explained to them why he did it. They would never forgive him.

Would Alec?

"Helloooooo?" Jonathan was waving his hand in front of Magnus's face. "Answer the question."

"Oh..." Magnus snapped out of his thoughts. "Uh, could you um, could you repeat it?" He wasn't exactly scared of Jonathan.  There wasn't much he was scared of.

The key to having no fears was to not have anything to lose. But now he had Alec. He had changed his life for the better.

"I said," Jonathan was saying. "Who else knows about the boy's resurrection?"

"Just me." Magnus lied.

Jonathan let out an extremely unpleasant noise, somewhere between a snarl and a laugh. "Magnus, my friend, it's not good to lie."

"I haven't told anyone else about it. That's the truth."

"Yes, but I do know his sister is aware of his return." Jonathan frowned. "I was testing your loyalty. And you are not very loyal."

"And why would I be? I have no reason to trust you." Magnus scowled. "You are nothing more than a heartless demon. You've hurt people before. And you're not scared to do it again."

Jonathan's smile faltered for a split second. "I would be careful about what I said if I were you." He pushed Magnus against the wall, his eyes turning pitch black. His eyes flickered back to normal and he took his arm off of Magnus's chest.

"Jace," Jonathan said, turning away from Magnus. "He's not taking Alec's death too well, is he?"

Magnus simply shook his head, even though the other boy was not looking at him.

"He's weak. The loss of his parabatai had a great effect on him." Jonathan continued. "It's the perfect opportunity for us to take him down."

Magnus swallowed.  He had to think of something. Fast. He couldn't let Jonathan hurt anyone else. Alexander would never forgive him if he did.

Alec's POV

Alec felt horrible. On top of the pounding in his head, he had just watched his boyfriend, his true love, jump out the window with their worst enemy.

And we thought Valentine was bad, Alec thought.

At least then it had been simple. Kill Valentine. Don't let him destroy the downworld. But now, there was so much going on that Alec could hardly keep up with it.

He didn't know exactly who else had died the night of Jonathan's attack, but he did know that there was close to no one left at the Institute. He heard the front door to the apartment swing open, followed by footsteps.

He couldn't move. His whole body hurt. But he tried anyway. Instead of sitting up in bed like he had wanted to, he just groaned as another wave of pain washed over him.

"Alec?!" A familiar voice echoed through the apartment. "Alec, are you in here?"

Seconds later, Someone ran into the room. Alec's head hurt so bad he couldn't even process what was happening, or who was standing in front of him.

"Alec!" He put his hands on Alec's face. Alec closed his eyes. Everything hurt. "Alec, you're alive."

Alec replied with a painful sigh. The person pulled his stele from his back pocket, lifting the corner of Alec's shirt and tracing over his Iratze. A warm sensation spread through his body, and the pain dulled down a bit.

"J-Jace?" Alec mumbled as his vision began to clear.

"I'm here, Alec." Jace smiled, then frowned. "Where's Magnus?"

Alec took a deep breath, then began to explain what had happened.

"Oh, no." Jace sighed. "The Clave will have him executed if they ever find out."

"But we can't let that happen. If he hadn't left, I could have been dead again. He was only trying to protect me. And if anything happens to him, his blood would be on my hands."

Hi. Sorry for not posting until like 8 o'clock. And I didn't think of anything that's too good. But I think you're going to like what I have in mind. *Smirk.* Okay, also I was re-reading City of Ashes and I can't get over that one part on page ten.

"I'm not," Alec said, through his teeth. "Just because you said dragon demons were extinct-"

"I said mostly extinct."

Alec jabbed a finger toward him. "Mostly extinct," He said, his voice trembling with rage. "is NOT EXTINCT ENOUGH."

"I see," said Jace. "I'll just have them change the entry in the demonology textbook from 'almost extinct' to 'not extinct enough for Alec. He prefers his monsters really, really, extinct.' Will that make you happy?"

I can't stop laughing! It's so funny. Or maybe I'm just weird, I don't know.
