Jace's POV

He still couldn't believe who was there in front of him. He had thought Alec was gone. He had thought he would never see him again, never be whole again. But here they were.

"Jace, help me get up," Alec said, his voice weak.

"Maybe it's better..."

"No. We have to save Magnus."

Jace sighed. He helped his parabatai into a sitting position, then helped him as he slowly started to stand up. The second his hand left the bed, he fell. Would've hit his head if Jace hadn't caught him.

"Alec, come on. You can't even stand."

Alec pulled himself back onto his feet. Jace could tell that every movement he made was beyond painful. He could feel it a little himself.

"Do you smell that?" Alec asked.

Jace took a whiff of air. Something was burning. He ran to the kitchen where he found a pot on the stove, that was boiling over and spilling all over the place. Jace reached over to turn off the stove, but the water splashed onto his hand. He turned off the stove with a small shout. His hand was bright red, the skin peeling in some places.

"Hot! Hot! Hot!"Jace yelled, tracing over his Iratze.

"Jace?" Alec yelled from the other room. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine!" Jace yelled back. He sighed. This might take a while to clean up. Chopped up carrots were stuck to the ceiling, along with several other vegetables. He decided he should wait until it cooled down a bit before cleaning it up. He walked back into the guest room, where Alec sat on the bed.

"First things first," Jace said. "Let's fix you up."

Magnus's POV

"You want me to do what?" Magnus couldn't believe what just came out of Jonathan's mouth. Sure, he was evil and all, but that was just dark.

"Of course, you don't have too," Jonathan taunted. "Just think about your dear Alexander."

Magnus bit his lip so hard that he tasted blood. "Either way, something horrible happens to him."

"Yes, but at least this way it would be quick."

"No," Magnus said through his teeth. "I can't. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't."

"What a shame," Jonathan smiled, taking a step toward Magnus. He was so close, Magnus could smell his breath. He needed a mint. "I will make you do it, one way or another."

He grabbed Magnus by the throat, lifting him off of his feet. It was obvious he had grown much stronger since the last time they met. He threw Magnus across the room, his head slamming against the wall.

"I have to go have a chat with a certain Shadowhunter," Jonathan said as black spots danced in front of Magnus's eyes. "I'll be back before you even know it."

Alec's POV

He didn't know what Jace had done, but he felt amazing.

"How did you do that?"

"It's a trick Valentine taught me. I've actually never used it before, so I'm glad it worked."

Alec smiled. He stood next to Jace, his bow in hand, still in Magnus's apartment.

"He told me it wears off quickly, so be careful."

Alec nodded. "Do we have any idea where Magnus might be?"
